To be fair, who could have foreseen starting a preemptive war in the Middle East would have bogged down a superpower?

I am genuinely curious where we go from here.
  • Exxon and Chevron executives are openly speculating that we are likely going to see $150/barrel oil in just a few weeks
  • The Trump admin seems more intent on pump and dump market manipulation that actual progress
  • Congress is asleep at the wheel
  • The strait is still a mess
  • Bibi is still war criming in Gaza and Lebanon
I still say we just pack up our toys and send our troops home. We won't be more hated globally than we already are. But that doesn't seem to be in Trump's interest - how can you pump and dump the market if you don't have assets in the middle east.

Very sad state of affairs. The silver lining is by January he won't have a congress willing to lick his boots.

Agree he f*cked us. I see leaving as the least bad option of a set of exclusively bad options because:
  • It ensures no more Americans die in the region
  • It saves $1B+/day
  • It stops the depletion of our weapons
Sure it doesn't open the strait. But the only way the strait is opened is if we either go all in on the war (which would be an even bigger mistake) or if we capitulate with Iran (which Trump is likely incapable of doing politically or psychologically).

What would you propose we do?

I’m the opposite. Have to go full throttle now. Either way there is no “good” choice.

Wow. IMO that would be a worst case scenario. Did you learn nothing from Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq? Why do you think that is necesary (other than a somewhat fatalistic flirtation with the end of the world and WW3)?
Did I? I’m not in power to make stupid decisions based upon the past unlike the dumb **** in charge. I just don’t see a world where Iran is allowed to control the entire Middle East oil supply. Maybe we are trying to figure out alternatives but JFC we screwed this up so badly for EVERYONE.

That is almost double what per barrel prices are now, no? (Somewhere in the low to mid $80's per barrel, I think.) But it could have shot up after today's depressing news. I have not checked. The weasels in charge of the oil companies will immediately jump the U.S. domestic price per gallon to numbers never seen before. THAT is when the proverbial sheyt is gonna hit the fan.

Trump simply cannot allow crude oil prices to spike like that. It's political suicide. He needs to put the clamps on Israel's continued bombing of Lebanon. The Iranians said no new negotiations until the bombing stops in Lebanon, and Netanyahoo has had ample opportunity to bomb the crap out of Lebanon. We may need to go back into Iran and do some more bombing if we can't get a decent deal. The Strait HAS to open, without tolls of any kind. If I were Trump, I would pass on seeking promises from the Iranians about their future nuclear ambitions. Those promises aren't worth much anyway, and we can always go back in and bomb again if we feel the need to do so in order to disrupt further enriching of uranium or other nuclear weapons development.

What’s a joke? Iran now has the balls to choke the strait whenever they damn well please. They didn’t before because of the unknown. We half assed the operation and now the only way to end it is to quit and go home, leaving Iran with all the power or to go full throttle and decapitate the regime. trump and his handlers are ******* idiots.

I have no doubt they will try. I remain hopeful that we aren't that far gone yet. That is perhaps foolish of me, but I will hold out hope.
This will drag on until boots got the ground in mid to late September. This will be used to suspend the election because we can't deprive the military of their right to vote.
