The 1962 team was still the "best" IMO.
Must be boring over in that other thread since you spend more time in here.

Really don't understand going with Perez over Severino.

For those of you (like me) who had no idea who Cionel Perez is: He's a 30 year old veteran lefty, with 273 MLB appearances over nine years with four clubs. Had 16 appearances with the Nats this year before getting DFA'd. Had some good years with the Orioles not too long ago.

I too am surprised about the Severino DFA. But apparently his underlying analytics were not good, despite the fact that he has been putting up zeros on the scoreboard. (I point that out solely for the purpose of triggering some of you. You know who you are.) :)

Nice win today with some positives all over. Good to see them get a series under their belt again with a somewhat easy W.

They were slowly marching back to .500 before the tire went flat again for the previous Marlins series so let's see if they can get to 5 under soon and then keep going after that. Should be getting back more guys soon as well with Polanco and Alvarez. Lindor should be starting some sort of rehab soon as well I believe.

Mazzili noticed it, and don't think he was being a homer- the speed and fielding of Ewing and Benge has been a big plus.

The season has clearly been a disappointment to this point but I still think they can make a run at this. If not we're getting great things from all the young players to develop them for the future. There's still 4 months left baseball is a long season.

Pitching has to hold up and they need certain guys, like Semien, need to hit consistently for the team to have a chance. Can't keep having up and down performances.

Back to West Coast again where it's tough to watch the games. A bit of a step up in competition now so let's see if they can keep it going.

Making them fly out west like 5 separate times in 2 months really didn't make much sense.
Mets had seven western series (six Pacific, one Mountain) scheduled this season. This could have been done in three trips interspersed throughout the season. Instead it was done in four trips all in the first 40% of the season. No scheduling favors there.

Tough loss !

Why not intentionally walk Cole Young to set up a potential double play?

Also this is Mets 4th trip to the west coast this year. That’s a lot as of June 1.

The answer to your question is that the free runner had stolen third. At that point you don't dare playing for the double play, because if you don't turn it, you lose the game. You have to play the infield in. You could walk the bases full to get the force at the plate, but then you leave your pitcher with no wiggle room.

No problem with pitching to Young in that situation. When you don't score in the top of the tenth, it's tough to win.

I actually don't think any real mets fans were celebrating that..... the only one celebrating that was David Stearns, the worst GM in baseball
Yeah, the celebrate comment was off base. The comparison of stats was why I posted.
And Vientos' sounded tone deaf in that post game interview.

Alonso is currently in the midst of his worst offensive season in his career so not the slam dunk you think it is. We'll see if that turns around but that deal the Orioles gave isn't looking great right now. I wouldn't want to be on the hook for that much remaining money if he's on the downturn of his career. The Mets also expected Polanco to play at 1B a lot more as well.

The inconsistencies of Vientos and Baty are one of the problems with the team though.

Re the first tweet that you forwarded... Nothing says "Unbiased Mets Fan" like the use of phrases like "absolute circus, unserious franchise".

Unserious? I mean, seriously? Does anyone out there really think that Cohen, Stearns, and Mendoza are not serious about winning? Call them incompetent if you like, but don't call them unserious.
