So Trey Phelps and Mini-J got tossed for taunting and arguing today. Can’t participate in Game 1.

Phelps’ ejection was well earned.
I didn’t see the play, so he maybe he did something extra. I’m certainly not defending him or Georgia but seems like they could throw people out every game if taunting is worthy of getting tossed.

I’d be all for getting this **** largely out of the game. It’s annoying. But I’m just not sure the time to start enforcing this is in the regionals. But with that said, I’ll certainly take not having to play him.

I just watched the highlight. I agree with the ejection and reject Johnson's statement that he was just "waving to his family."

As he's rounding first, you can see the first baseman mouth, "What are you doing?" and Phelps said something back and gave him a dismissive wave. The spin move rounding third was just icing on the top.

Bad look for Wes here. I know you want to back your players, but Phelps embarrassed his entire team right there.
Yes, it was absolutely stupid for Wes to even come out of the dugout. He should've ignored Phelps completely, had one of his assistants escort him to the locker room, and then chewed his assout in front of the team after the game.

Now they both look like a couple of miserable clowns. 17'em.

Maybe it’s just me, but I saw as he approached first he extended his hand as though he was offering to shake hands with the first base ump, then pulled it back for the hair slick.

What a terrible look for Georgia. The next ncaa crew will be watching them with a finely toothed comb, right? Right?

Well deserved ejection. The taunting that Phelps was doing while rounding the bases after his HR made him look like an absolute clown
I'd be fine with taunting like this if pitchers were still allowed to handle it the old-fashioned way and send a message to the next batter. Since that's no longer acceptable, there's really no deterrent for acting like a clown other than getting ejected.

Sorry, but it didn't look like he was taunting the opposing team at all. His celebration was clearly directed at GA fans, not their bench. But at first glance, I agree it looked bad.

So the 1st baseman and 2nd baseman and ump were all wrong in what they saw and heard? Both the 1st basemen and 2nd basemen were like "what the hell dude"

I am going to go with the ump, just going to imagine that he heard/saw something trashy and said get that trash out of here. (the ump was black so don't even try to say it was race related)

Yea, just looking at it, it looked obnoxious and I'd be fine with tossing him just on that, although I'm not sure how consistent umps are on that stuff. But it does seem like there was probably something beyond just obnoxious based on the reaction of the ump.

Something happened right there around 1B. Both 1B and 2B were like "what are you doing?". I suspect he did a little more than the MacNamee sort of thing.

ETA: Phelps' dad is all on FB saying it was his (Tre's) fault.

Were you pissed when our catcher rolled up the UGA player after he tagged him out at the plate and got half of our team ejected?
Absolutely, and still am as it still gave GA bulletin board material for their series here a few weeks ago. More pissed at Lemonis for shrugging it off in the post game that evening “Johnny being Johnny” or something like that.

Our catcher absolutely deserved to get ejected for that and so did Phelps. College baseball is different than pros. They don't want pitchers throwing at batters in retaliation, so they crack down on taunting with quick ejections. College players and coaches should know this and not dance around the bases when they hit a home run against a Conference USA team or whatever the hell conference Liberty plays in.

I saw it, it was deserved.

I can understand a fist pump, slow start to first while you watch a 400ft homer and a steady jog around the bases while soaking up the moment followed by a wave to the crowd. What he did came across as a smartass taunt that makes you want to knock his teeth out. Sportsmanship was not present in the moment. Good call to toss him.
