I’m all for honoring a coach who has dedicated his life to this great sport, whether our own or a rival. However, if the committee awards a tournament seed for that purpose and to facilitate a network feature story when it is not otherwise merited, then this outcome is predictable and, ironically, an unfortunate way to end a career.

Sincere congrats on your career, Coach Avent. Enjoy your retirement.

I mean rules are rules, so it is what it is. But that was really a bummer of a way to go out. I don't blame EA for going a little nuts there.

However I am really curious why they kept their starter in after he looked like he was sick as a dog in the super disastrous first.

I hate that rule.

With only that short clip can somebody explain exactly who was delaying what? The batter was in the box, the pitcher had the ball and nothing was happening. I come from the age when there was only one first base so forgive a geezer for being behind the times.

The batter has to turn his eyes to the pitcher to “engage” by 8 sec on pitch clock. That’s why you guys look towards other dugout while stepping in the box. Tile intended to keep batter from running pitch clock down.

Which umpire has the job of monitoring that 8 sec limit? Home plate?

I believe the home plate umpire has a wrist watch that has a buzzer when it hits 8secs on the clock........I'll find someone to ask, but IIRC that's the deal.

I think that moou was gifted a place in the tournament because of his announced retirement. In my humble opinion, they took the bid from Pittsburgh who deserved it because they were playing well at the end of the season. I also think that Pittsburgh would have accounted for themselves better than moou.
Ah yes, the classic "Lifetime Achievement Bid."
