Car dealer sales reps

We were out checking out some vehicles this evening for a couple hours.. it always amazes me how you can do a bit of research and window shopping and know more about various features, options and trims than the actual sales reps.

If my job was to sell cars, you’d have to work hard to stump me with a question. I’d know those vehicles inside and out. I don’t understand why so many of them just don’t do that.

Im always surprised by how many car sales people are not "car people".

And not to defend, but if a used lot, it's too many make / model to learn. If it's a dealership, I'd agree with you, why not learn all the little features of each vehicle. Further proof, they aren't looking to find the right vehicle for you, they are just looking to move units.

I thought about it and I decided they exist as a line of defense from the public for car salesmen managers and finance people.

The car salesman cannot make any deals with a customer until he consults
with the sales manager and finance guy. They must approve the deal.
So the car salesman is not someone who can do much for the customer.

Yeah, used cars I get.
This was a Honda place and the guy was saying stuff that we knew wasn’t accurate.

I bought a new Toyota in Feb. the sales guy was there to get the keys to the vehicle, and ride along on my test drive. I knew more about the model than he did, and I’m a dumbass.

Yes, that's why I always instantly want to be transferred to the Retention department. That's where the real power lies.

Turnover has to be pretty high in the car sales profession.

As a buyer, most people should scan websites for what they're looking for, and do much of their own research.
