I heard teams are doing this. Is it true? Is that binding in any way?

Example: Trey Taylor

Binding - but if someone wants them bad enough the new school will pay the penalty.

Trey's dad (supposedly) came on here and said that's not true 🤷‍♂️
I don’t remember him saying anything about money. Only saying that as long as the coaching staff was here Trey was committed. Which could definitely be in the language of the contract.

Yeah, he said he didn't get paid in HS and he's getting less $ from Nebraska than he's been offered from other places. I remember because it was posted at me. Tried to find the post, but I can't get it to come up.

I’m excited for Trae to be a Husker. He looks the part and is doing a great job peer recruiting. I just don’t want to be hurt again.

He signed his own NIL deals unrelated to Nebraska, so his dad was not lying, but he is already making six figures.

NIL deals, which are permitted by the Illinois High School Association, are part of the new landscape. Trae Taylor’s agreement with Leaf, negotiated by Net Sports Management, requires him to sign 6,000 stickers annually. He said he shipped the first 2,000 autographs to the company earlier this week.

“It was a little rough at first signing them all. I had a little bit of a cramp,” Taylor said. “It’s something that you want to have as a football player — your own trading card — and to have it at such a young age is cool.”

Taylor has also partnered with clothing designer Seydehwon Nagbe, a relationship he forged on his own, and Nature’s EpickL Hydration, a locally owned company that sells beverages that Carmel coach Jason McKie introduced to him to help alleviate cramping.

“When I heard about some of the deals that he’s made, I wasn’t surprised because of the potential he has, and his work ethic is off the charts,” McKie said. “Him being so high-profile has created opportunities for teammates and elevated the status of the program.”

Anthony Colandrea will have another year of eligibility next season under the new 5 for 5 rule, I wonder how that affects things.
I can’t imagine he would expect to start as a true freshman anywhere he would go. It’s very doubtful he would at OSU. The 5 year thing seems ridiculous to me. The redshirt rule was more than generous.

Rhule going to go into a 5th year with a seat that’s blazing hot with a true freshman at qb that he’s probably guaranteed a starting spot since he was 15.

No way that would be successful.

"Yet questions about the Buckeyes’ interest in Taylor persist because, well, the Buckeyes keep showing interest in Taylor.
“(Ohio State’s) thing is: ‘We really want you here,’” J.R. Taylor said. “Trae has been really adamant that, ‘I’m not going to a school with two quarterbacks.’ We said that from Day 1. If there are two, we’re not coming for certain reasons."

It doesn’t. His dad has been an effective communicator for him. He said Trey will redshirt his first year. I like that scenario a lot. He comes in without the pressure to start and gets to learns from a senior who is not threatened by him.

Didn’t the 5 year max pass? I don’t think redshirting is a thing?

As do half of the Ivy League schools. But, most football players aren't going to have the academics to get in to any of those schools. And, until they sacrifice that, they won't be able to compete in big boy football.
