Lemieux died by suicide in Florida, on May 28, 2026, at the age of 60.
I was shocked to hear this because I just saw him in Montreal the other night. Damn shame.Shame !
Heard he was in Montreal on Monday for a pre game ceremony !
Sad of his circumstances!
A great player and savage competitor !
Remember him as a rookie when he scored the Game 7 OT winning goal against my Whalers in the Conference final in 1986. The Canadiens would go on to win the Stanley Cup.A great Devil, but I also remember him from his Montreal days when he first entered the NHL .
A tough conversational player that might not be in the HOF because of the way he was so aggressive on the ice
In addition to the loss of a great person, the worst part is the family and close friends left with a sense of "what could I have done or said" to prevent what happened. Recently went through this exact situation, and it is torture. This news dredged up the terrible feelings. It's a little more than the person who took their own life not asking for help. It's checking in on your friends and asking how they are doing and telling them how much they mean to you. Preferably in person or on the phone. . . .Reports are Claude hung himself. Ugh
Watched an emotional Ken Daneyko interview on NHL Network last night who was friendly with Claude
Ken was very shaken up as one can expect !
Wish people would reach out and get help when getting suicidal !
When you said Pepi Lemieux my mind went straight to thisClaude Lemieux has passed away. Pepi was one of the great big game goal scorers.
Very eloquently said and my condolences on your loss that you’re referring to !In addition to the loss of a great person, the worst part is the family and close friends left with a sense of "what could I have done or said" to prevent what happened. Claude was a Montreal Canadien icon. Good memories of playing with and against him at the Canadiens Xmas parties. A real good guy.A great Devil, 60 years old!
