I was trying to find out if anyone official (Jan, Brad, A.D.) had said they were out of money that I may have missed. Otherwise, it is speculation by those on our site, which is fine.
However, I don't think we are out of money but other factors enter into the equation.
1. No centers would likely want to play behind Heiden as they would want a lot of playing time if they are good.
2. Jan likely does not want to recruit OVER our 5 star forward, Makenna and finding a good 4 to be second team and play 15 to 20 minutes is unattractive. Houston has shown she can play in this position also.
3. Jan recruited Whiting to play the 3 and also has Stremlow and Houston who can play this position.
4. Jan recruited Carnegie to play the 2 and it is unlikely a good 2 guard is going to want to play behind Dani for 2 years. Stremlow can play here also.
5. Chit Chat is our point guard for 2 more years and Jan only needs a backup and either found one or can cover with existing guards.

The point is, I don't think money is the issue, I think the structure of the current roster makes it difficult to get top transfers to come in and either sit on the bench behind our strong starting 5 and only play backup minutes or Jan brings in a real top notch player thus recruiting over a current player which she won't do.
Three of these starters have 2 years of eligibility left and one starter has 4 years of eligibility. Only Whiting is a Senior starter.
I thing Jan will have difficulty recruiting again this year and only got one recruit last year due to being unable to exhibit starter openings for recruits to compete for next year.
I don't think money is the problem. Our A.D. will make sure the women's basketball program doesn't lose momentum due to funding.

We have more money than most. I think we're going to have a really good team, but we shouldn't be the ones crying poor. Your next post explained where you're coming from a little better but still we have to be top 10 or 15 for resources.
I agree that Iowa has more money than most. There are 76 programs in Division I. I also agree that Iowa is probably among the top 15 teams for resources. That's good, however, Iowa doesn't have as much money as a top 10 team that can easily sign a large recruitment class with multiple top30 recruits, or a transfer class with three or four superstars, or complete the roster with 13 or 14 very good players. I also agree that we have a good team. This might be a sensitive topic for some fans, but Jan made it very clear, more than once, that money was a limiting factor in her options at Portal, but she did a great job with the resources she had available. Iowa have eight very good players and that's it.

Woliczko doesn't (currently) have the strength to compare to Hannah's game. She could develop that over a year or so, but right now she isn't going to be playing defense or rebounding on near the same level.

We just did this last year, and here you all go again. Woliczko has been playing against weak high school players and all-star games. The strength that takes doesn't equate to what is under a basket in the Big Ten.

She's a good player, but you just lost a four year player that damn-near picked up a Michigan forward fighting for a loose ball. The team doesn't have that, so right now the big hope is that Heiden gets "angry" early in games.

Woliczko will come along. She will need some experience and time, some latitude to make mistakes.
I'm just going to disagree on the rebounding thing. Rebounding is about "want to", quickness, and basketball IQ as much as it is about strength overall. MW has those qualities in spades. Watch some of these posted videos, and see how often she rebounds out of her area, and she's relentless on the glass. She knows how to track the ball off a miss and get in position. The only thing that will determine if she can match Hannah's 8.5 boards per game is how many minutes she earns. We had a point guard a couple of years ago that averaged 7 rebounds a game, because she knew how to track missed shots and had a high basketball IQ.

FYI: We may lose Ella if I'm reading these new reports correctly. Key word being may. Since she played in pro ball, she probably picked up compensation for it. Maybe @KyleHuesmann can look into it and get a response from Jan if Ella is part of this targeted group to nix from college sports. If they don't pass it in time for this season, it may then apply to her 2nd season with us.

Cool! Thanks for the quick response on this. We're already close to shorthanded and if we lose Ella in 2 or 3 months from now if it passes for this season, that could be a problem, If we take on one or more injuries even to just bench players it could set us back. Excess PT for starters could even cause them injury. Just thinking Jan could be in an unfortunate situation if Ella fits into this group. Great news that we don't need to worry about this possibility 2 or 3 months from now. Thanks again for your prompt response to it.
