Why?

She will have two years of eligibility in 8 days.
If the NCAA adopts the new ‘5 in 5’ rule (which is quite possible and expected), both Medina and Whiting could be awarded an extra year of eligibility. That is also true for any player that can be accepted into graduate school.

For the Iowa women basketball, a program that is well known and respected for academic excellence, that would mean an older/more mature team. As a result of this (as well as the new dynamics of the transfer portal), recruitment in the future is more speculative than ever.

On the 22nd the NCAA will change eligibility to 5 years for anyone eligible to play next season and are under the age requirement.
That is the proposal for now and it is expected to pass, but it is not a ‘done deal’ just yet. I personally am in favor of it and hope that it happens.

I think a lot of members here are not aware of this potentially imminent rule change or they do not understand the implications. The impact of the ‘5 in 5’ rule change will have far reaching repercussions.

First of all is the resulting increase in the number of graduate student athletes participating. Of course that will necessarily increase the average age of teams resulting in an increase in the overall level of play. It could also potentially level the overall playing field as the very best 5-star players opt out of the fifth year and are drafted into the WNBA after their four years.

It will also reduce the number of opportunities for [marginal] HS seniors to receive a college education from athletic participation. (The same thing happened with the extra year for Covid except this proposal is a permanent change.)

The NCAA is also considering separate rule changes in the future that could limit transfer privileges.

It's Jan's Twitter/x. I don't have an account, so look at pages sometimes with xcancel.com. Maybe that doesn't link properly through the forum. Try pasting the address into your browser? Or just look up her post yesterday, if you have Twitter.

For someone with no social media ..you sure post alot on a social media site.
I started posting back in 2014, eight years longer than you but have 1200+ fewer posts. Not that active in totality. When I worked I seldom posted.

I started posting here in the early 2000s under a different name. Not sure what your point was.

And there is nothing correct about my join date or number of posts. My name on the previous site didn't have a space between my first and last name so my name did not match up to pull over the the info.

It truly is sad what has become of society. Last week I had a young woman walk into me while standing on the sidewalk. She was focused on taking pictures of herself while walking down the sidewalk. Crazy
I have people almost walk right into me all the time, and I want to scream, "hey, look up from the damn phone". There is evidently a new neck injury related to people spending so much time looking down at their phones. Its beyond ridiculous. Just got home from getting a quick bite at a fast food place and the Mom and two daughters sitting across from us spent the entire time, each of three, on their PHONES! People, put the phones down and interact......

I usually speak loudly "Look Up" when walking up on anyone walking towards me looking at their phone

Back to 27 recruiting. Jan was in Minneapolis for a tourney several weeks ago. Seubert and Mya Wilson both played and named all tourney. I think Jan really wants to add Mya to the 2027 class.

Read on a gopher site, posters bemoaning the fact that Chloe Johnson wasn't looking at the gophers. Unfortunately doesn't look great for the Hawks. She has visited UCLA, USC, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. Has plans to visit Duke and North Carolina also.

They hard going after the Wilson sisters hard though.

If Dawn Plitzuweit is able to tighten the borders in the years ahead then the Gophers will become a B10 powerhouse program because Minnesota consistently produces D1 talent, highly ranked prospects…..and Plitzuweit is known as a pretty good recruiter (and coach). Time will tell.

Chloe Johnson has visited Iowa...and others you did not list.
