How are they spending so much on their roster while going public with how much debt they have at the same time?

NIL donations are seperate from operating expenses. I’m sure there current spending spree is financed by recent donations and outside marketing opportunities/Adidas, not by the school outside revenue share.

Honestly, when you look at Louisville’s situation through a Duke lens, it’s almost… brilliant.
They’re running a deficit, sure…but at least they’re allowed to maneuver. Louisville can actually use NIL as a weapon. Kentucky? You’re handcuffed to that JMI timeshare contract until 2040.

Louisville can overspend, restructure, pivot, and chase elite players like Momcilovic because their NIL isn’t welded to a multimedia rights deal from the Stone Age. They can take risks. They can adjust. They can go big.

Louisville is playing venture‑capital NIL…high risk, high reward. Kentucky is playing fixed‑income NIL predictable, capped, and painfully slow.

Duke, of course, just watches and laughs! 😂

They way overextended themselves building the Yum! Center and what did it get them? A really nice arena. We’re the ones who refuse to ever spend the necessary money on what we want. And we nearly always wind up spending that much anyway, just rarely on what we really want or need.
The City foots most of the bill. UofL's payment is around 4 million a year.

UK has the only fanbase in the country that lies about its own NIL situation. UK isn’t handcuffed, and you couldn’t specifically explain how it is if your life depended on it… because you’re lying. Dear Leader has you brainwashed into believing JMI is weeks away from building a nuclear weapon. UK is capped by how much money we have, just like every other program in the country. No matter how many times Will Stein exposes it, you still lie. It’s always the same recycled language from the BS Polacheck/Pilgrim/KSR story.

Ask any of them how UK is supposedly “handcuffed” or what the actual restrictions are, then laugh when they can’t answer. Not a single one of them can explain it.

The guy you replied to, is a duke fan that has been allowed to troll here for weeks.

I don't think he is a Duke fan. He is a troll from here pretending to be a Duke fan. All his posts are just bullet-point complaints that the doom and gloom bunch have relentlessly posted since about December.

You only need to look at both football and basketball records since NIL arrived to see UK is doing something very wrong.
Calipari tanked as soon as NIL started.
Stoops tanked as soon as NIL started.
Pope can’t seem to put together a roster with JMI.
Im so sick of hearing Stein is killing recruiting by signing a few 4 stars. Stein will end up 25-30 in the rankings. That’s not winning ish.
The biggest proof to me our NIL stinks is Calipari is finally recruiting Difference Makers again at Arkansas. His last class here was the first time he had no one drafted. His first class at Arkansas included the National Freshman of the year. All he needed was financial backing. He didn’t get it here.

Whenever someone from outside the Kentucky echo chamber uses full sentences and basic logic, you all immediately assume it’s a troll in disguise.

But sure, keep telling yourselves I’m a “fake Duke fan.” It’s easier than admitting a real one walked in here, read the room, and summarized your entire meltdown phase in bullet points more accurately than your own posters.

So Pope did not have the highest paid roster last year? I doubted that news all along. Pope never refuted it but never really seems to confirm it, either.

Did you read the article? It's not NIL.

Last year's projected athletics deficit also hovered just below $30 million. But it was softened by a one-time $10 million university transfer, a new student athletic fee, and a new $25 million line of credit, to be used over two years.

Precisely! I said when this all went down, and Mitch had already stated Calipari was returning, that UK couldn’t/ wouldn’t be able to afford the guys he was accustomed to bringing in, and sure as ****, Calipari got a NIL commitment from Arky’s big donors, and the rest is history!

Pope/ UK is currently playing a game of pretending to still be a major player in the NIL era, but basic common sense and simple economics tells a entirely different story!

Take Momcilovic for example, UK “allegedly” has the $$$ set aside that was intended for Stokes, but that money never existed, because if it did, Pope would/ could have used it for a whole host of other players, especially Momcilovic, but we’ll never hear a single word about it ever again, even when Momcilovic chooses someone else beside UK.

There was money set aside specifically for Stokes ONLY. Nobody else was getting that chunk of money except him.

I remember someone saying that a good portion of the Stoke‘s offer was committed to him only and would therefore not be available for other players if he did not sign. Can’t remember where I heard and have no idea if true.

The city built the Yum Center and gave UofL a sweetheart lease agreement and the arena went into a lot of debt. I think they amended the terms a bit, but UofL still get way too much control over things.
Seventy % of so called revenue at Yum is actually state or local tax money . Complete ripoff of the taxpayers.

Mitch Barnharts near criminal reluctance to adapt to NIL has put UK behind. Cal and Stoops both alluded to this while here. Stein and especially Pope( as he is beholden to Barnhart for his job). Will say nothing. As for all this crowing about Stien killing it I applaud the optimism but caution he hasn't proved anything yet. Let's see what happens on the field before we annoint him. Pope on the other hand has proved he is mediocre so far on the court. I understand the criticism and admitt he has put himself in a put up or shut up situation. As for JMI anyone that reads the agreement and I have can plainly see a problem. The money and recruiting environment for football and basketball is vastly different. Placing contract restrictions on top 25 level basketball players thus reducing the amount their AGENTS( who are running the show) could possibly earn ain't cutting it. Stien doesn't YET face this issue because he has little chance of landing a 5 star football recruit right now. By my last look we have recruited 4 or 5 4 star guys. The real players in the SEC will probably get 12- 15 4 stars and 2 or 3 5s.if we don't fix the JMI situation and Stein has some success here he will leave .wait and see.

Most Pope haters would rather us lose than do good so we can get rid of him. We have played harder schedules than previous seasons 20 years. Last year we got blown out 4 to 5 times. According to some we were blown out every game. We also had significant injuries and no depth and the players we had couldn’t do anything aka jasper and most times bg. This year will be an upgrade and Louisville I look at their roster and besides big men I’m not overally impressed. Injury prone Knox and Shetland, you got the big from Iowa who averaged 8 and 5. It feels like they are overpaying worse than we did last year.

Maybe Mitch and Eli's plan this entire time was to take like 5 years off of being any sort of respectable basketball program, to let everyone else just go bankrupt and close their basketball programs, and then Kentucky kind of emerges from the rubble and rattles off like 8 Final4s in a row in a 7-team tournament.

Actually, all duke fans are fake, as soon as duke falls off the little hill they are currently on, all of you will just go back to your regular lives and not even be bothered.
It’s why there is next to no traffic on any duke boards on non game days.

I believe Nike was kicking that extra in
Nike isn’t paying or giving us or any other college money to recruit. Nor is Addis, New Balance or Puma. I don’t know where some are getting that but it’s wrong. I
Of course we make money from them for using their gear and equipment, but not for specific recruits. I could see Oregon getting extra hand shake money from Phil, but not anyone else.

What happens when some schools refuse to be bullied into giving money to the athletic budget?
Thankfully, the SEC teams won’t need to worry about that for a long time. Now we need to build our football program up so we never need to worry about money again. A strong football program can make every Kentucky Sports programs better.

I see your point, but moving closer and closer to a system where only SEC and B1G teams schools are relevant and viable greatly weakens the overall appeal of college sports imo.

Yeah it’s going to tough for most conferences to compete unless they can somehow find the money. I hate what’s happening now to be honest. It just takes all the love from college athletics for a lot of fans.

What? All the shoe Companies are kicking in money to help the top rated players to one of their branded schools. They are negotiating directly with the players. Adidas gave players from Overtime Elite funds. they fall under the category of Personal Corporate Endorsements.
