And yet he’s going to be the champ main eventing the largest gate for a non-All In PPV in AEW history. That’s top guy material.
This is taking being a mark to a new level.
I am fine with Darby getting a title run, but it needs to be a short one like Foley. “Thanks for the bumps and what you are willing to put your body through. Here’s the belt. (3-4 weeks later) Annnnnnd it’s gone.”
I think Village is correct in thinking Darby isn’t a tip top guy. He’s a main event player but is not a “face of the company” guy. Solid worker, insane bump taker, average promo, built like a crack head. Beating Brody King wasn’t believable for me, for example, even through I knew he would. (I had similar issues with Mysterio as world champ years ago.)
AEW is doing some cool stuff right now. I am going to give them money and buy DON.
I just think they’re really trying too hard with the title defenses on every show. My wife is a casual who will watch wrestling if I am while also looking at her phone.
During Collision on Saturday she noticed Sammy Guevara and said “I didn’t know he still worked there. Haven’t seen him in forever.” She later asked why he was getting a shot at the world title. I shrugged. I can buy some opponents but Speedball and Sammy, for example, shouldn’t be within a couple midcard title divisions of the world title.
