Couldn't stand the guy probably 15 years ago but as time went on I came to appreciate him as the old guy who said what was on his mind.

That being said, announcing now seems like the most obvious play ever to get a sympathy bid from the committee.

As a person, he seemed to be a great guy. As their coach, his antics were troubling. My son & grandson ran into him at their park while visiting Raleigh & although they had in Carolina shirts, he was very gracious. Scott Forbes speaks highly of him.
Watching him this season, especially later, I noticed he seemed to turn things over to the head assistant coach.

Not a surprise. Was on the brink of retiring last year, but wanted to make one last Omaha run. Losing Dudan and Marohn pretty much killed that. He’s been upfront with recruits the last few cycles too. Would be a major surprise for anyone other than Hart to step one chair over to be HC (also keeping current staff intact). They’ve pretty much been running it for a while anyway.

Wouldn’t surprise me to see Chrysler replaced, they’ve had some REALLY talented arms the last few years that just never really met their potential.

Exactly what I thought as soon as I saw Avent was retiring! Worked for Jack Legget!

They had another legit candidate if they wanted it in Alex Sogard. State alum, Wright State is pretty good every year.

If they saved money on Hart, I'd wondered if they could pay Sogard more as pitching coach than he currently makes as a head guy. Could also be a better path to getting a big-time head job. But at this point he's been a head man for so long (8 years) it's hard to imagine him taking an assistant job.

All I know about Eliot is he got bit by a copperhead and the snake died. ;) But seriously, he seemed to be a likeable guy in the limited interviews I have seen of him. A baseball lifer who would talk baseball with most anybody at length. If he hadn't been a wuffie coach, he might have been acceptable in most social settings. I'm glad he survived the bite and wish him well in retirement. I hope they don't find someone who is an improvement.

I mentioned this about a week ago but he lives in my neighborhood and the few times i have met him he has been a very nice guy. Now when he puts on that disgusting red uniform, well. Wish him best of luck going forward.
