First of all, before I start this post, it may offend some people, but I am tired of seeing players that are on full scholarship, rev share, NIL making bad baseball decisions. First of all, Talmage LeCroy is awful. He had a play at the plate and he should have tagged the Tennessee player out by 5 feet, yet he lets him go in safely, then on the rundown play, he cannot hold on to the ball to tag the player out from Tennessee who should have been out by a mile, he drops the ball. Unbelievable! Then our short stop Scobey cannot hold on to a ball that should have been a routine out. I mean I have seen little league players who could have made that play with no problem.
Then in the first inning our first baseman cannot make a routine play where all he had to do was make sure he had his feet on the bag for the out. Then he does not make this play. Yes, I am sick and tired of seeing players who have played little league, high school, AAU not make the simple fundamental plays of baseball. I hope whoever the coach is cleans house and lets every player go in the transfer portal or transfer. Doesn't matter to me. These players get free housing, food, help with their studies at the Dodie for free, first-class air travel when they travel to play a weekend series, plus they get their weekly rev share, NIL. Then at the end of the day, they want their weekly allowance. Everyone on this team from all the coaches, strength coaches, academic advisors need to get the hell out and get someone who wants to represent our baseball team and school with honor, respect and pride. Like I said this is just my opinion and my opinion only. If you disagree that is your prerogative. I hope and pray we get someone who wants to be the coach at the University of South Carolina, not an outsider who does not care about our history, tradition and the pride of wearing the Garnet and Black.

Sounds like someone like Landon Powell would be an answer to your prayer

Monte Lee wants to be the coach and is definitely an insider.

Your last sentence was ML pledge to program if hired. I hope he gets this chance. It will be his baby from the start. If it fails, I believe as a good man, he will move over. He wanted this job prior to taking Clemson job, it wasn't there for him due to holding onto Holbrook for so long. Ray could probably answer that, but he doesn't owe us anything on this board.

Baseball team travels by bus to most away series. Air travel to those schools near or west of the Mississippi River. And I highly doubt it's first class.

No thanks. Lee would be a desperation hire at head coach. Why do you guys get so enamored with "he really wants to be here"? So does Shane and it's because nobody else in the country is paying him $8M a year except us. Lee wants SEC head coach money and doesn't deserve it. And then a nice buyout if things don't work out.

Didn't Lee fail at and get fired from clemson?

Didn't Clemson fire Monte Lee due to not meeting expectations in post season play and overall job performance? Perhaps he is a nice guy, but based upon his record, he might be best served to return to the smaller schools where he experienced success.

So, who thinks Ray in his prime would have coached this group to a Super this year? And if so, would you bet your mother's life on it?

Players matter. Just ask Spurrier what he learned about that in 2014.

You can only do so much with the material you have to work with.

Players matter. Recruiting well matters.

Agreed. I've always thought the Jimmies and Joes mattered more than the Xs and Os. There are very few like Spurrier who can simply outscheme others, almost regardless of talent.
How many think Whammy Ward was a defensive guru who simply forgot how to coach after 2013 and has had amnesia ever since?

The coach does have to have at least some basic competency to properly use the talent.

ML is a nice guy but do I want a guy that lost 13 straight games, isn’t he the hitting coach, how many games did we get only 3 or 4 hits, great recruiting guy, how many of the guys on this team did ML recruit? Pass him on to Ray and let him be his assistant for raising funds

I saw nothing from Lee which demonstrated leadership, strategy, adjustments, motivation, etc. during the 13 game losing streak which would make him a candidate to continue in a head coaching position at SC regardless of the players he had to work with. No excuses!

Exavtly.
Why some on here have failed to understand the " I really want to be here" nonsense is nothing more than self advertising is puzzling.
It is what they say to advance their chances for the job opening. Nothing more

Spurrier did not "simply outscheme others". When he was winning big here, he had teams loaded with talent. He was winning with talent, not scheme.

In 1990, when SOS went to UF, he brought a game no other team in the SEC had ever seen, and he dominated. At that point in his career, he definitely out schemed opponents.

Read my post again - I said, "...the Jimmies and Joes mattered more than the Xs and Os". So, the talent mattered more than coaching. The remark about Spurrier was independent of his succes here. I said, "he can". He was/is an exceptional talent who can "outcoach" (scheme) most others on the fly. He has an understanding of the game few possess and even fewer can execute in the moment. Watching him look at the matchups on the field and yell adjustments to take advantage of alignments/matchups to exploit them was a thing of beauty. Steve's coaching ability allowed him to do more with less when needed.

When they lost that defensive talent after 2013 there was no one on the D staff who could provide enough coaching or scheming to compensate for that, hence my comment about Ward. It's a lot easier to look like a genius when you have talent and when you don't it can expose a lack of knowledge about the game. I always thought he did less with more, that the D should have been more dominant than it was.
What's Whammy done since he left here? Never seen him referred to as exceptional since then and don't think he's going to be enshrined in any HOFs like Spurrier has.

Hope that clarifies it some.
