First Beer I ever drank… my uncle had a case of them in the ice box… I sneaked one out and went behind my Grandmother’s house and hid behind the sistern and drank it. I was probably 8 years old.

When my old man got home from work, my job was to get him a schlitz and open it. Keep in mind that was when they were steel cans so I had to use a can opener. Then had to take the empties to the shop and cut out the tops And use them as hardware holders. For all that, I got one sip!

I read a story about Schlitz a few months ago. Apparently it was actually a good beer until the 70's until corporate decided to tinker with the brewing process.

They completely changed the brewing process to make it faster while also swapping out barley malt for cheaper corn syrup. The results were terrible, and it never recovered.

I read that article. It was bs. So you change the recipe in 74 and 50 years later you say “ we never recovered”. My arse, Papst is up to something

There’s a family-owned factory I read about that has been making yardsticks for generations and they just came out and said they’re not going to be making them any longer.

I don't recall ever drinking a schlitz. It's very possible I did.

I'd drink pretty much anything someone handed to me for free but I'm also certain if there was an instance where someone was handing me a free schlitz, there was only one outcome for that evening, and remembering was not in the cards.

In the 70s my step-grandfather would drink either a Schlitz or a Miller and watch Mid South Wrestling (which he believed was absolutely real).

I remember my drunk uncle, while working on his F100 pick up telling me to get him a **** out of the cooler. He was my aunts husband.

The one Schlitz incident I remember is a few of us spent a weekend at one of the guy's girlfriend's house. Her dad worked for the Mississippi Central railroad. We go into the garage and there are 20+ cases of Schlitz stacked in the back and the fridge is full of more of it. She says that "mysteriously" these cases fell off the train and if that happens they are given to the train yard workers. It was funny that it seemed only Schlitz cases had this gravity/friction problem.

So, wait a minute, are you saying your drunk uncle was your aunt's husband??

That's just crazy talk...

I've never had possum piss but I bet it's similar

Production records weren't kept prior to the 1930's but Gemini says it was the #1 selling beer starting after prohibition ended in 1933 through the '70's, and it lasted 177 years so.........

Me too. I can remember everything from Colt 45 to Black Label to generic beer to Mickys but I don’t recall ever drinking a Schlitz. Now I want one.

This was our house beer when i was at State in the late 90s. The grocery store ran a constant special on Schlitz - it would be two weeks of 2.99 a six pack, then rotate to a 12 pack for 5.99. I think they did this for the whole time I was there.

Schlitz was awesome because nobody wanted to drink your beer, and you could make endless jokes about getting "Schlitz-faced" being "three Schlitz to the wind" etc. Our house alcohol was Scorsby "Premium" Scotch, another winner.
