Can someone explain why the smallest class in terms of number of teams gets two brackets at state?

The format is the same in all three classes. There are essentially two pods of four teams each, and the pod winners play each other in a winner-take-all championship game.

Weird situation in the Class C state game today between Guardian Angels CC/West Point-Beemer and Central City/Centura.

The game originally saw GACC/WP-B seemingly defeat Central City 2-1. GACC pitcher Bryce Popken was on the mound, and he had thrown the day before in a win over St. Paul/Palmer. He was listed on the NSAA website as having thrown 31 pitches in that game, which would have made him ineligible to pitch in the game against Central City.

There were several prolonged conferences between coaches and umpires, but Popken was eventually allowed to stay in the game. The boxscore from Maxpreps listed Popken as having thrown 30 pitches the day before, which would have made him still eligible in the Central City game.

So, apparently the NSAA ruled late Tuesday that "there was a pitch count violation, in which a player was deemed ineligible and entered the game illegally."

As a result, the game will be restarted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning at PLVS in the bottom of the 7th with a runner on second and nobody out, with the score 2-0 in favor of GACC/WP-B.

They stopped the game and called the NSAA. Nsaa said he was good to pitch so what changed?

The whole problem to this situation is the lack of communication there has been with pitch counts for each team after the game by the NSAA. The stats the NSAA are using on GameChanger are not being made public, so it seems as if teams are going off their own GameChanger stats. This is a fiasco that should have been prevented very easily! There should be pitch count sheets that are being signed after each game or NSAA should be sending updated pitch count excel sheets to each team after the completion of each days games. Very interesting situation here!

Very good - do you know of any communication between the NSAA and teams regarding pitch counts of each game? Teams should not have to go to the NSAA website to find their "official" pitch counts for the game. IMO

Coaches know to go to the "official" box score that is updated after each game on the NSAA site. Signature pages have typically been used as well as dugout communication to the official book. GACC used a second ineligible pitcher in the Mount Michael game immediately following the first game this morning, resulting in his removal and coach being ejected. Game resumed at the point he departed per rules.

All I'm saying is that if I am the NSAA with the all the pitch count rules and such....I would have someone specifically designated to talk to each team when they arrive on site and discuss pitchers and pitch counts. I would also send out a document to all teams after the completion of games for the day with all "official" pitch counts for the day. Nothing would be in question.

On another side note - I have been apart of a team that has made the state baseball tournament in recent years and we have NEVER once gone to the website for "official" pitch counts. We were always communicated with an NSAA official on that in some way or form. Unless they changed it this year in their meetings with all the coaches and administrators prior to the start of state play. Is what it is and what a wild couple of days in C for state baseball.
