Holloway would agree. For weeks he is telling associates that this current backcourt is far superior than what he had last season. Even with Clark involved.Me too much better Backcourt imho

I actually think Budd made a huge impact in many of the close wins. His defense especially down the stretch was disruptive and he was able to create space and get his shots off when defense tightened up at the end of games. He made some big shots at the end to win several games.I liked Budd very much. But on offense he impacted the flow and the ball got stuck with him often. I think we will miss him on defensive and rebounding end moreso.
But fortunately for us games are won with play on the court not with ratings on paper..This is simply put Coach Sha BS talk. He probably gives the same hype every year including the team that finished last. These players have yet to actually come on campus and practice and play 5 on 5 or even scrimmage another school. Sha has no idea what this team is at this point.
On paper we lost more talent than we brought in. We lost 4 players on a 20 win plus team that are rated 4 stars by 247 sports and none of the players transferring in are rated 4 stars.
All of the schools in the BE reloaded and the talent and competition just got much better. It will be much harder to finish at .500 in the BE this coming season. I don't see SHU having a winning BE season unless there is a major surprise with the remaining kids brought in.
Most guards on top teams have 3 front court players that can bail them out. We only had one center that was a true center and could bail him out! He did a lot with less!Defensively Bud got bailed out a lot by our centers. His ball pressure was very good and he took Sha's coaching to handle the tempo very well. When he came to us his assist rate was not great but he turned into a solid passer so he was better than his numbers suggested there. Without the three point shot threat he became easier to defend as the year went on and teams would post him up more. Del Jones has much more size, is athletic and has the potential to be better than Bud. We will see what happens in the fall.
It also seems we have more players that can create and shoot the ball. If we can lock up the Center position that can rebound and block shots that will be great. We will still have a brand new roster (except Parker) so that is the challenge each year now to get them to understand Sha's approach and handle his intensity. Hoping it works a little better than last year and we make the tournament. I'm tired of settling.
There were not a lot of scoring options for Budd to pass to and certainly not any outside scoring threats! And then there was butterfingers manning the center spot. So yes Budd was often the best scoring threat in many games due to the line up deficiencies!I was a big Budd fan and I wish we still had him. Someone above mentioned rebounds and Budd did get us some big boards, had great toughness. I thought he was too score focused when he drove. But unlike many hoops fans today, give me a guy who can make tough 2s. The 3s were an issue. The size was an issue.
I am optimistic, and I picked us going .500 in league last yr (partly in reaction to the board lol) when most thought we should ve demoted to the NEC. I think we will be better, partly I admit cause I am a SH fan and I fear disaster only when play on the court shows me to be concerned.
Yea no. If you watch teams play, they don't keep three guys in the paint. They actually have to go out and guard other players. We tend to attempt to keep one big in the paint area for defense when we can. When that center or PF hedges, the lane is open but Sha's defense prefers to keep one big in the paint anchoring the defense, backing up any penetration. And both of our centers were solid shot blockers. Bud was good and I wanted to keep him, but one of his weaknesses was letting other stronger guards get by him and Payne and Naji helped clean that up.Most guards on top teams have 3 front court players that can bail them out. Hines has terrific hands. Both centers averaged about 1 TO a game. There were not a lot of scoring options for Budd to pass to and certainly not any outside scoring threats! Sha plays a ball pressure defense. We extend, we switch, we try to disrupt and be physical. We want centers who can get back as the eraser. The defense was so much better last year than the year prior because Hines and Payne did that, blocked shots, and we were much better at defending the paint than the year before.Yea no. How many wide open looks or layups did we miss last year? We may not have as good of a playmaker as Clark was on the team this year, but if we can shoot better it negates that need more. It’ll cure a lot of woes.We only had one big! That is my point!!!! Most guards when they drive have at least 2 bigs in or near the low post. Budd only had one and if he was not there for whatever reason there was NO other options!
Quite an insult to Alex Gambino.Yet you can get excited about M’Baye a player whose ceiling is Alex Gambino
You have no idea what Mbayes ceiling is. You comparison is silly.Yet you can get excited about M’Baye a player whose ceiling is Alex Gambino
67, we all wanted him to be a good player. I know I was encouraged that Sha kept him for this yr. The few times he got on the court, I hoped to see that glimmer. Granted, being impressive in the last minute can be difficult. But he got 3 minutes total PT and committed 1 foul and missed one shot. I never saw that glimner to make me hope to see him get more PT.You have no idea what Mbayes ceiling is. You comparison is silly.
Isn’t it telling that he hasn’t been picked up by anybody? You have no idea what Mbayes ceiling is. You comparison is silly.
