This has to be one of the least desirable jobs in college baseball. Distant past success and the expectations that come with it while sucking hind teat for the last seemingly forever. Hard pass...

Heard on sports talk show today dude being interviewed believes Schnal is candidate #1. He's certainly become the popular choice because of CCU's rise to baseball prominence & our slippage. Will he accept? Only 4 people know, him, his wife, CCU's AD & Donati. That's only if inquiries &/or offer has been made.
Doubt seriously anyone outside of the above knows for certain, if an offer actually exist.
It should no doubt, be prudent for us fans to be prepared to play "long ball" cuz nothing gonna be known for certain until CCU finishes it's own road to Omaha.
Schnall, on other hand, could @ anytime, come out & say "thanks, but no thanks.
If he did, question becomes, if our hopes of a Savior right here in SC turns us down, would similar support be given to another choice? Even though he's # 2, or 3? It's a scenario we've faced before & very well may have to again.
Reality is, we're in overhaul mode. Inticing to some. Not so much to others. Accepting # 2 or 3 may be reality. Whomever takes over deserves patience on our part.
Its fun to speculate, I'm as guilty as anyone, but Schnall, although #1 on the list, doesn't need us as much as we "want" him. He's a rock star right there in Conway. Some people are just comfortable right where they are. Money ain't everything.
Although, I do hope & pray we get him.

What pitch could possibly be made to entice a desirable baseball coach to come to SC? 🤷‍♂️
And that's why it might end up being Lee. Is there anybody out there who truly wants the job more than Monte? I'm not advocating for him, but he might end up being the best interested candidate. That alone shows you how far the program has sunk.

You're saying he has one of the most important qualifications sought for a head coaching job at SC, he "really wants to be here"?

No - I'm not saying that; I did not mention qualifications at all in my message.

Who else wants the job?

Ask Powell. He would be a much better choice.

He would be best hire to get things started in right direction sooner. Waiting on others in tournament who most likely won't come is time wasted. If ML could put his plan mentioned in previous article into use, I think program starts to improve. Make his contract be based on specific yearly improvements. If things don't work, hopefully the program will more enticing to the next guy. Right now, who would want to come here. IMO, ML would have came here when Tanner hired Holbrook. He wants to be HC here, let him try from the start. Not with last HC disasters.

Lee really really wanting the job should carry no weight whatsoever. Shane says the same thing. "Dream job, not going anywhere, blah blah blah". Nobody else is paying him what we do or trying to lure him away. What major program is considering Lee other than us? Nobody. Lee is part of the reason this current team is non-competitive.

What coach at a major program is considering us? Again, I'm not trying to advocate for Lee; just stating that it may not be as easy as all concerned might think to lure a high quality coach to Columbia.

BLASPHEMY!!!! Don't you know that South Carolina can have any coach it wants in any sport simply by offering the job to the coach they want? Every coach is sitting by their phone hoping and praying for that call from Donati to come through.

Oh good grief, stop with the whining, enough already; you guys sound like jilted high school girls. Nowhere is it written that South Carolina baseball is entitled to be on top. It comes, it goes; deal with it like an adult.
Well, either you want it or you don't. The people who want it are driven by a sense of destiny. It makes them relentless in pursuit of what they want. This is the ethos driving the Big Boys of this world. If one thing doesn't work, they move on to the next. They don't settle.

Well lord knows we’ve beaten that horse to a pulp, in all the big three. Because we’re entitled to be a big boy, because we ‘want’ it, just like everyone else thinks they are I suppose. Their constituents just don’t seem to whine as much during that relentless pursuit.

I think a major problem for SC fans is, and has been for a very long time, an unwarranted sense of superiority that is in no way backed up by history. WBB is very strong now, but that is a recent phenomena and when Dawn leaves, WBB will go back to being another middle of the pack in the SEC team. Baseball, probably the most successful major sport, has had flashes of success, but it is, and has never been any sort of long term dynasty. Winning back to back CWS probably created a totally unrealistic expectation for the future of Baseball. MBB, for the most part, is mediocre to bad historically, with a few bright spots thrown in. Football, especially football, is the poster child for mediocrity and always has been, yet football fans seem to have the attitude that gamecock football is some sort of traditional powerhouse and every season is going to be "special".

Every P4 school "wants it" in every sport. Some, like UK, focus their "want" on MBB. They enjoy a successful football team, but they don't obsess over it, same with baseball. MSSt, for years, was a baseball powerhouse. They are not anymore but they still see themselves as a baseball power. They are reasonable about football. They are passionate fans, but they don't delude themselves into thinking they are going to challenge for the SEC championship every year.

I think the "sense of destiny" that drives SC fans is a complete delusion. There is nothing in gamecock sports history to support any sort of sense of destiny. That delusion, and seeing Clemson enjoy the success they have recently enjoyed, pushes some SC fans to the brink of mental illness.

Hopefully, Coach Staley's leaving will be retirement.

It's that sense of superiority which puts Schnall on the short list ("We are USC. He should come coach in Columbia."). And oddly enough, even though I'm not a Chants fan, that's a major reason why I'd like to see him stay in Conway. And I'd like to see USC schedule Coastal in more sports overall.

Ramsey may find himself in a position in Atlanta similar to Tanner's in Raleigh 30 years ago. Tech has made some upgrades to Russ Chandler Stadium (the "Rusty-C"). Will they do more to keep him? I hope so, and I hope that Tech and USC will schedule each other in more athletic contests.

Tech will undoubtedly host a regional next weekend. Maybe I'll take in a game or so. USC played at the Rusty-C regional circa 2004. Time to come back.

Ramsey is the guy I’ve had my eye on, I hope he is being considered although I’m not a fan of poaching coaches.

I know nothing about Ramsey other than tech has been very good this year. I don't know if money would move him, but I imagine tech is going to give him a nice raise after this season. I think he's making around $500K now, would/should Donati offer him $1million? If he comes and is good, it would be worth it. If he comes and things don't go great, it is another failure hire at SC.

Most around here don't know that tech has a pretty good tradition in baseball. They haven't been champions, but they are generally a good team.

Does that mean you want to hire a coach that isn't coaching now?
Not at all but poaching a coach that (I think) just was hired as HC last year is just … distasteful. It’s like something someone would do to us. But I’d hold my nose for this guy.

I've been to a few Tech games in years past. They may get 2500 or so for a Sunday game. Maybe more this season - I haven't been to a game in about 3 years or so. About 1500 or so seemed like devoted Jacket fans.
