STORY: World bronze medalist Jenna Burkert hired as women's assistant coach

Announced earlier this afternoon, the Hawkeyes have filled their vacant assistant coaching position with the hiring of Jenna Burkert:



A 2021 World bronze medalist (and 4x Senior World teamer), Burkert has most recently served as head coach at Bixby (OK) High School - leading one of the top girls programs in America.

I'll be talking with Burkert at some point tomorrow, but through my research so far, she comes across as thoroughly impressive in just about every way.

They (Bixby HS) were ranked as high as #2 in the country at one point - I believe during the 2024-25 season.

Looking at the individual national rankings, there aren't a ton of obvious targets from her old school at present.

Oklahoma is a pretty good state for girls wrestling, though - so perhaps this pays a dividend here or there down the line (not that Iowa is really desperate to open up 'pipelines' at this point).

Bella Williams was an Oklahoma product in last year's class - the first in Iowa's (young) program history.
