Having relatives in Norway, I know that most Norwegians speak English, I would imagine the same for most Swedes.
Yes, I would think English language proficiency would be required before being admitted to the University of Iowa.
I imagine her case is different from Paula Valiño Ramos, who was also a late addition in the recruiting process. She actually played a year in the US as a high school student, and basically sent her own résumé to the Iowa coaching staff.
By the way I wonder how Paula's scientific career is going. She was a student researching assistant in the biomedical field while at UI. Even had her photo up on the lampposts in downtown Iowa City.
