Momcilovic on Mark Pope and Kentucky

"I think Kentucky would be a good fit,” Momcilovic said. “I obviously went against Pope at BYU his first year (in the Big 12), and I loved how his team played. I think we went 1-1 against them, but they killed us at their place, because they fly the ball up the court and shoot 3s. I really like the way they play. And obviously Kentucky last year, he didn’t have enough shooters around him to really coach, I feel like, the way he wanted. But I think if I were to choose Kentucky, that would be a good fit for me. I feel like I’d be a great player for him and he’d be a good coach for me."

he also said he wasn’t really interested in an extremely high money offer from random schools, instead he wants a good role and a place to show his talents. Kentucky is a great place to show your talents and we can offer him big bucks while giving him a great supporting cast and team almost built for him.

I do not think anyone can really argue with you on that, especially with Pope's emphasis on shooting from beyond the arc.
I hope he comes, plays 32-35 minutes and shoots ten (10) threes a game.
And we are obviously the best suited candidate because no other team that he talked about has near the spacing and three point shooting as us.

I really don’t get the UL interest with Knox and Folgieras already on boards
Knox would likely re open his recruitment if that were to happen, but I don’t believe Louisville to be a true player for Milan. I have heard they have offered the most money but I don’t believe they are either of his top 2 choices at the moment. We will find out in a week or two.

I hope this isn't false optimism. Momo would be the featured volume shooter for a very athletic team. This is one of the two major missing pieces we need.

Don't be weird, Pope. Land this kid.
IF we get this guy and we get Moreno back, I only see one hole to fill - I really don't like our guard depth. But with 14 spots filled, would we be able to add anyone worth having? Or can Hawthorne play the 2?

Look at any NBA team, talent up and down the entire roster… Why?

Because those dudes are getting paid to do what’s needed to win!

College basketball is pretty much the same thing now! Heck, just look at Duke!
The biggest difference between the NBA and college, is one major thing… a contract.

When you play in the NBA, you are under a contract, you don't have the franchise by the balls, they have you by the balls. If you play a position that has 2 guys better than you, you can't just transfer like college kids do.

In college, the players hold all the power.

What? Is he delusional? Hasn't he seen all the doomers pontificating?

Wow

Oh you've "heard" have you? Pray tell where you "heard" this. Has anything you've "heard" ever turned out to be correct? Name one thing you've "heard" that's been accurate.

Kam can't handle the ball, I really don't like the idea of him at the 2
I actually think we are going to see a decent dose of the Freshmen Williams at the 1 and Morton at the 2. Kam and Hawthorne probably split time at the 3/4 depending on matchups and sub patterns.

I have to believe that with Mo on staff, he's making it clear to Pope that in order to recruit elite freshmen guard talent, you have to show you are willing to let the freshmen get solid run. Obviously Williams isn't a 5 star stud by any means, but Pope probably knows he has to use him to try and invigorate his pitch to freshmen guards. Plus I personally would rather see Williams get some extended early run in the softer out of conference games to feel more comfortable if the injury bug comes for PG1 again next year.

None of that is to say that Williams is the next John Wall. It's gotta be a stepping stone to better freshmen guards in the future (assuming Pope does well enough to have a future at UK).
