We have to get more length from Jason than 5 innings on a Friday night. He pitched great, but if we go farther, we need at least 6/7.
No doubt, especailly when he's only at 81 pitches through 5. We're going to need more than 5 from whoever pitches the first game of a regional unless it's a situation we're up 10 and take them out at ~70 pitches so they can pitch Monday.

The way Forbes has been going out for mound mound visits and NOT pulling guys, I was very surprised by that move to go to Globe. Clearly a feeling or answer from Jason didn't fit... or Jason was honest and told him something was off. Honestly thought it was just a slow down/ reset kind of visit. But whatever it was, it will surely have Forbes rethinking his decision making process moving forward. I really thought if Jason gets through 6, even if he gave up a couple it would be a big difference in our bullpen usage. Then of course we drop fly balls and walk a bunch to make it worse.

Led to a win ultimately but definitely put a dent in the bullpen depth for the rest of the weekend. IMO - we can NOT use Globe and Duff like we did last weekend AGAIN right before the postseason. EVEN if that means losing one of these games this series we may have otherwise won.

You don't usually get to talk your way into staying in the game when you've walked 2 straight guys.

We will likely not play until end of week so using them Saturday should not be an issue.

At worst now. We get through tomorrow with about the same group of pitchers that threw against Wilmington. Then Globe and Duff will be available for game 3. Boaz will need to keep us in the game though.

Forbes always sells out to win game 1 of the series if he has a lead and of course he wants to win the series, but not surprised he pushed them both to a spot where they might not throw tomorrow considering 1 win likely clinches a top 8.

Isn’t state saving their “ace” for Sunday?
I think Consiglio is their best available arm and I expect him to throw tomorrow, even though they didn't announce anything past today.

I'd give most coaches the benefit of the doubt and say he didn't throw tonight because they wanted him to get a full week of rest after a long start last Friday. But Avent has played so many games with rotations over the years I just assume he was trying to game the match-ups the best he could.

That’s what I was told by some friends who are state fans. Apparently the guy we faced tonight was their weakest starter. Avent is banking on winning tomorrow, and throwing his normal Friday starter against Boaz. Not a bad idea IMO considering that Boaz has been shaky.
Except it basically guarantees that guy isn’t available in the first two rounds of the ACCT.

I think the key moment of the game was the bottom of the 7th. Glauber not that sharp, dropped flyball to start the inning, 4/5/6 up and he mows them down with soft ground ball, popup, K.

They’re fine for another outing each. I’m sure they’re both available tomorrow in fact. Did you see my post? Did you see how much they pitched last weekend? Neither were at their best and Duff looked and pitched tired on his 3rd day straight.

Thx TA - Sounds like Forbes and I had the same thoughts on really hoping Decaro could get through 6, and that he’s got a plan in place and following it to NOT use Duff and Globe like they were last weekend. I’ll try not to pick up the phone tomorrow when he calls for more pitching advice… 😜😜😜

First of all great win ! But I have a question? I got to watch the game on ACC network and do you guys think DeCaro or Gains where to fine to start the 6 th inning? We are up 6 runs and he falls behind the leadoff hitter and still works the edges and walks him . With the score and inning why not just go middle/ middle and let him hit it? a solo home run wasn't going to get them back in the game but a 3 run homer after back to back walks could and did . What are your thoughts on the pitching approach considering the inning and score ? Glob threw 39 pitches and McDuffy threw 44 I would not think either is available for today game?

Can't nibble up 6-0. Make them hit their way on. In order for us to make it to Omaha, Decaro is going to have to pitch into the 7th inning in his starts. I also blame Gaines for the 3-run homerun. You can't throw 4 consecutive sliders. Fastball up was the pitch to throw to change the eye level in that situation.

That's my thought your up 6 to 0 in the 6 th go right at the first one make him hit his way own . Your right DeCaro must go deep in the game but help him out with the pitch calling ? A 350 hitter is still going to get 65 percent of the time.

With the way the wind was howling out to left, you just throw strikes and make them hit it gets you in a dogfight. See the HR they did hit to get back in it.

Hard to get too mad about the 10-pitch walk to Head to a good hitter. DeCaro threw a bunch of strikes and just lost the battle. That's baseball sometimes.

The fairly non-competitive 5-pitch walk to McHugh to start the inning was frustrating, especially because of how sharp/dominant the 5th inning was.
