I dont think some people really understand that a fan gets excited about a match that they come on a message board to talk about it. Its a hard concept to grasp but I think they are capable of figuring it out.
Yes...there is a downside. You're stopping all of us from discussing the match until the entire match is over. Sorry but that's never ever going to happen. So, the only remedy will be whoever is doing the pbp to have have their own thread while we discuss the match in the regular match thread. That means two separate threads. I could be totally wrong but I'd venture to guess Pete will do his pbp posts in the discussion thread anyway and won't start his on pbp thread. Like I said though, I could be wrong.

Do you remember the days when the thread title would say Iowa vs. PSU PBP only and then there would be a separate thread where the title would say Iowa vs PSU discussion thread? If so, you know why you rarely see that anymore? It's because guys like the GOAT Slippery Pete would post his pbp in the discussion thread. I suspect it's because they too want to be part of the discussion and don't want to bother having to go to another thread where all the traffic is to join the discussion.

Gotta be honest, I side with the people that are actually posting and contributing ideas and their thoughts while matches are going on over those that want to read the results an hour, 6 hours, a day... 3 days or even 6 months after the fact. It's a discussion board imo. Not an archive with results for those that want to get them when they decide they want to get them.

We actually have people on the other end of the spectrum here bitching and complaining when someone just posts "Wow!" and doesn't give context as to what happened or who won.
