Ralph Miller, Lute Olson and Tom Davis. What interesting stat do they have in common.

Without researching I dont think Dr Tom won a league title.

They all left Iowa and coached a team to the Dance?? Miller had ORe St ranked #1 a couple of seasons, Lute of course was ranked # 1 at Zona, was Iowa ranked #1 with Dr Tom?

Davis coached at Drake for 4 years I believe and his best record was 17-15 and no postseason.

Sorry, this is a bit off topic, but someone already gave the right answer to the question. And the OP mentioned Iowa old-timers. So, here’s a memory from an old guy: I was really depressed when Olson left. When Raveling came in, a friend in the athletic dept told me he wouldn’t last long at Iowa. I was very upset with his coaching, especially during a game against Indiana when we were down. Bob Knight decided to slow down the game and held the ball for what seemed like forever (this was before the shot clock), and Raveling held his players back. So, he didn’t force Indiana into taking a shot until something like 2 minutes left to the end of the game. Does anyone remember that? It was insane. So, I was not heartbroken when he left. Dr. Tom came to Iowa with a losing record at Stanford (58-59), and some folks in the media were going crazy. I remember a guy on the radio saying, “That’s all we need, another loser.” And then came that 18-0 start and the run in the tourney. I still think that if we had beaten UNLV, we would have won the national championship that year.

All 3 coaches bring to mind great joy and agony.

Ralph Miller - 14-0 in the B1G. Averaged 100 pts per game with a shot clock or 3 point line. Then , Pembrooke Burrows III

Lute Olsen - amazing FF run, Steve Waite with an "And One" to take the game from Georgetown, Then, Ronnie goes down against Louisville after scoring the first 10 points of the game,

Tom Davis - 18-0 start, awesome team, last second shot by Gamble to get to the E8. Then UNLV with the comeback.

Bob Knight did that in both games they played that year. He was friends with George I believe and was playing mind games with him. I also remember listening to a game on the radio during Lute's tenure, against Heathcote and MSU. I think it was 10-8 at halftime.

Yes, George and Bobby were good friends. Bobby picked George as one of assistants for the Olympic Games he coached. I don’t remember the 10-8 halftime score. The games before the shot clock were sometimes very difficult to watch. Tom Davis is credited with bringing fast-paced style of play to Big 10.
