Not sure if that's directed at me or not, my thinking was a) we haven't had an EV thread in a minute 2) I thought it was pretty remarkable this is honda's first annual loss EVER, and iii) 69

It was directed at a few of the ones responding. I didn't delve deep, but I don't have any kneejerk hate for Honda and have generally been pleased with their products thru the years.

Was a little confused.

I don't have strong feelings on EV. I'm sure it's the way of the future transportation wise. I don't much like the holier than thou cult it can appeal to.

What am I missing? Why is there joy over Honda losing money?
I don’t know if there is Joy over Honda struggling specifically, but I do enjoy seeing EV’s not be worshipped.
I want to see us go back to massive V8’s that easily ran for 300,000 miles because they didn’t have a bunch of “save the world” gadgets on them.

Nissan is on the rebound.

The cost-cutting and overhead reduction has been effective.

New product is coming to Canton. Nothing official yet due to some finalization of some sign-offs, but it will be significant for marketability.
Have they fixed their perception of shi++y quality problems?

The redesigned Frontier is a really good product with a normally aspirated V6. They just came out with a Roush edition. It's going to do well for Nissan.

17'n EPA mandates have killed engine reliability. Give me a non AFM/DOD GM 5.3 V8 that will last forever with minimal maintenance. Hell, even Toyota ditched the bulletproof 5.7 V8 and other engines for the new twin turbo v6 and v4 that have pretty significant issues.

There is a reason you see so many 20+ year old chevy/ford/dodge pickups driving around. Because they last forever. EPA mandates began neutering them around 2007. I've also noticed wealthy people that prefer older toyota/lexus suv's with the reliable v8's.

and don't get me started on the new fad of putting a massive ipad in the console to replace the trusty, reliable buttons and knobs.

Meanwhile Ford was up 13% yesterday.

ETA: Up another 9% currently.
Being behind in the EV game early saved Ford a ton of money a decade later. They were just late enough to the game to head off a disaster and pivot from the Tennessee Electric Vehicle Center to make it become the Tennessee Truck Plant. Saved them a few billion..

Those sumbitcches show 275,000 on the odometer and haven't had an oil change since Bulldog football had a winning season. Quality? Maybe not, but those cars are gritty as hell.
A lot of Nissan's problem is that they went all in on making money on financing cars to bad credit risks when the cars became less profitable. Over time, if a significant number of Nissan's you see have some combination of dents and dings, cracked windshields, possibly a trash bag duck taped to the door in lieu of a window, a trunk that won't close that is stapped down, fenders or bumpers hanging lose, a donut replacing one wheel, etc., it can't help but weigh on teh brand's image. Not sure they don't have actual quality issues also, but it'll be a lot easier to fix actual quality issues than fix their image problem.

If the new save the world requirements on engines make the vehicle go to a landfill twice as fast, are we doing anything productive for the environment?

Exactly. They could have just mandated hybrids a decade ago and the problem would have been solved by now.

yea, hybrids make alot more sense than full EV as of now. I'm not necessarily an EV hater because once we advance the battery and charging tech they will certainly be more viable. I think most of the ire people have towards EV's are due to the government mandating them. Government needs to stay out of the way and let the EV adoption happen organically over the next several decades.

TRUTH.......they brought back an electric version of their residential push mower, but not the gas......if they want to re-coup this loss and then some, re-introduce the gas mower at beginning of 3rdQ!!!!!
I would really love to know the thought process behind killing the mower.

That reminds me of the federal government's Cash for Clunkers campaign. Where we spent billions taking perfectly functional vehicles off the roads and into landfills.
