I thought I herd people saying one of the carolina schools for Shapiro interesting. Didn't The Kenny's Borge Youngblut maybe more recruits choose iowa over nebraska?
Yeah, Borge was between us and Nebraska. I believe Nebraska was in Kenny’s final list of schools. Plus, Youngblut was on a visit to Nebraska too.

Sounds right. not throwing shade on Nebraska they get Shapiro good for them. I think i remember an interview with Manning where he said they missed on some recruits they wanted so they were gonna hit the portal hard. They were close on Burnett and Sheppard who went with PSU as well

Nebraska sure is drawing a lot interest from top portal guys now. After finishing ahead of Iowa the last 2 years, (and likely again next year) this is not a good sign for the Hawkeyes.
Willie said they don’t pay these guys much, even with their credentials. So Nebraska hasn’t discovered a big pot of money to spend, they just want the privilege of wrestling for Manning/Nebraska. This puts them in the rarified air with PSU and Okyst, who supposedly don’t have to pay much for blue chips either. We used to be in this club, but now Nebraska has taken our place. 🤮

We found out in 26 with Bo, Raney twins, Ross, and 27 with Miller, that close only counts in horse shoes and hand gernades.

I like seeing Iowa focus more on high end recruits and recruiting as opposed to 4 or 5 transfer portal guys personally. Recruit well, develop the recruits, and use the portal to fill in 1 or 2 holes. This is the way to build a team imo.

Nebraska is not special and I doubt they are paying anything less than the going rate for transfers. You must be getting your news from the PSU weekly podcast

Amazing these guys are coming for nothing more than a ham sandwich
And Nebraska is out of money and are losing a few high school recruits because of it. One is about to reopen his recruitment!

Also, Nebraska is making the same mistake Iowa made by relying too much on the portal. Iowa fixed it — we are going after the high school talent now and using the portal to fill holes.

Yes, Borge and Youngblut were 100% down to Nebraska and Iowa and you guys won out. I think Kenny had many still on his list w/ Nebraska in the mix too. The Bachmanns of course were ISU/Iowa.

What a spin. I never said PSU or OKST don't pay big money. i also didn't say Nebraska doesn't pay anything. but they didn't get guys b/c of giant offers. hell, echemendia landed in their lap.

you guys have always been weird about the money thing. being able to offer big deals is a GOOD thing. i'm sure the people at nebraska wishes they could offer more. believe what you want but nebraska didn't land this year's portal guys because of some giant pile of cash.

i'm not sure if you're paying attention but nebraska has had two years of balling out at ncaa's. their performance and development is going to attract guys that are disgruntled.

who said that? in fact, i literally just wrote this: "i also didn't say Nebraska doesn't pay anything"

is it an intelligence problem or a douchbaggery issue?

no, i know what it is...

you just don't want to accept reality.
Reality is even when Iowa is at its worst in over 20 years, and Nebraska is at its best; Neb still can’t beat Iowa in a dual.

Yes, I basically said what you just said. That Nebraska apparently isn’t paying a lot for these studs, they just want to be part of Manning’s program. This is what we hear from PSU/OSU about these guys just wanting to be part of Cael’s /Taylors dynasty so they don’t have to pay as much to get them, but we know this is BS, they pay top dollar.

Lorenzo Norman to Oklahoma St
Not surprised. Will get a nice payday and it will be easier to beat out Facundo than that log jam of top blue chip guys at middle weight at PSU. Facundo has. Even recruited over now after one year in the lineup at PSU and PSU southwest. Get away from the PSU family man if you want to compete.

Remember, duals don't matter now, only March matters, or something like that.
When exactly did they last matter to your ilk? I seem to remember you guys complaining for several years now and it didn't seem like you guys cared about their dual results back then......they were 55-5 the last 4 years after winning the title in 2021....

24-25: 14-1
23-24: 12-2
22-23: 15-1
21-22: 14-1
20-21: 5-0
19-20: 13-0
18-19: 14-1
17-18: 12-3
16-17: 13-2
15-16: 16-1
14-15: 17-1
13-14: 15-2
12-13: 21-3
11-12: 14-4
10-11: 15-0-1
09-10: 23-0
08-09: 24-0
07-08: 21-1
06-07: 9-4

So, for clarity's sake, when exactly did dual meets matter to you guys over March? Or even matter close to as much as March?

You said on your podcast that Nebraska is not paying Ech as much as ISU, but the word is he is leaving ISU because they weren’t going to pay him what he wanted. ISU decided to split his money between the Frosts and get two weights instead of one. So just curious if Nebraska is paying him more than ISU offered for next year?

Ech was out recruiting coaches he wanted to wrestle for. He wasn't chasing the most $ he was chasing the best fit for himself and he knew he would get $. Obviously Nebraska is paying him but it's not a ridiculous amount. And VRob wasn't making a ton at NC St. Nebraska had things fall perfectly for them and they capitalized. They've wrestled well the last few years which has made recruits look hard at them. It's been happening for awhile but the results the last few years has allowed them to land these guys now instead of just being on the list

They've always mattered to me, if they didn't I sure pissed away a lot of time, money and effort to watch or attend them for decades.

But then the Midlands mattered too, and the old National Duals as well.

And since Iowa Wrestling has lead the nation in attendance for the large majority of the last 50 years it seems to matter to more than just me.

But, other than that, I guess duals don't matter................
