She said they might go higher if find the right player, but yes sounds like plans to go with extremely small roster this year.
She said 10 and maybe 11 and she did throw the 12 out at the end. The 12 would have to be a pretty good one I would think.

Does D3 have a portal?
At one time, Raoul was tracking them. This seems to be the last one I could find on his site.

Women's Basketball Transfers: D-II and D-III, 2020-21 - WBB Blog

Found another resource referencing it...

Another resource talking about the portal timeline process for D3 players...

However, I wasn't able to find a public tracker for it.

Athletes wishing to transfer from DIII to DI do not need to enter the Transfer Portal.

This is not a biggie. However, some conflicting info here.

Your site reference seems out of date. Last published date was Nov 14, 2024.

The reference I posted states:
"Before the January 2026 NCAA convention, Division III schools were allowed, but not required, to enter such a student into the portal.[10] A proposal to require use of the portal in that division was approved at the convention. The timeline for D-III members to enter athletes into the portal differs from that of the other divisions. Athletes wishing to enter the portal must first complete an educational module. Once completed, the school has seven calendar days to enter the athlete's transfer request into the portal.[11]"

This isn't my opinion, it's a copy past transfer rule. From what I've researched in other sources, this rule still applies to 2026: "Athletes wishing to transfer from DIII to DI do not need to enter the Transfer Portal".

Realize it's not your opinion as I read the article of where it stated that. I even referenced the 2024 date from the article that states no need to enter the portal. However, it could be outdated from the wording in the reference I posted since it was talking about about a year 2026 change where yours was posted back in 2024.

"Before the January 2026 NCAA convention, Division III schools were allowed, but not required, to enter such a student into the portal.[10] A proposal to require use of the portal in that division was approved at the convention."

The above wording makes it appear that "before the convention" you were not required. Implying a rule change to take effect after the convention. However, it leaves a gray area of when the new rule kicks in.

After further research, the new rule of D-III required portal entry starts Aug 1, 2026 according to this college athletics attorney.
"The rule requires an educational module and then gives the school seven calendar days to place the athlete into the portal, with an effective date of Aug. 1, 2026."

So it does look like you're correct and she can still use the current “permission to contact” by just applying for a NCAA # that allows for D1 contact with her.

Yes. That's it. Athlete from DIII doesn't need to enter the Portal to transfer to DI. For now, that's the rule.

I think her point is that 11 and 12 would have to REALLY be "fit" players because they probably know upfront they aren't going to be getting game minutes barring an injury or two which shakes up the roster. Maybe there's a hidden gem out there, but finding a player at this point who's going to compete for minutes vs the current 9 get slimmer by the day.

I'd be happy with 12. Last season's 11 and 12 on the depth chart at the start of the season, Callie and Teagan, did have to play some non-garbage time minutes in a few games due to injuries + fouls.

That's sort of the point I believe I made.

Two incoming players and you demote Journey to the 4? You are correct in that you are guessing.
I don’t think this is considered a demotion. It is a role/position that has limited options. Who else do you suggest to play that role?

It is also not about the positions that these two new incoming players play, but rather what position they do not play, which is a good size 4 that could perform some at the 5 when necessary (which is the only position/role that Iowa adequately lacks).

Just so there is no confusion… she is an incoming freshman, not a portal transfer.

PS, I think (not 100% sure) it is a violation of the terms of agreement to post links to the competition’s website.
Nah, there's no "rules" about linking to third party sites for info. Mods can ask you not to but you can also just do it anyway. Yes I did peruse both the terms and community guidelines because I wanted to see for myself. If I'm wrong I'll gladly own up to it but based on the legalese used I didn't see anything that expressly forbid it.

From what I have gleaned from Jan's comments, Journey will be a 3. I'm not saying she won't play some 4, but just because a couple other players signed that may be 3s doesn't necessarily mean Journey will now play the 4. Of course like most everyone else. we will see.
