Would receiving $60 million in athletic donations in a calendar year to ascend to middle of the pack in potential NIL funds, but then squandering half of it on something like this below qualify as “mismanaging of capital”?If that’s the case then they are grossly mismanaging their capital.
I'm not sure I follow. I don't think Howard cut that check and told us to do whatever we wanted with it....it's not like we could've put that money towards our NIL fund but decided to build the IPF instead. He donated that money to get his name on a building and leave a legacy.Would receiving $60 million in athletic donations in a calendar year to ascend to middle of the pack in potential NIL funds, but then squandering half of it on something like this below qualify as “mismanaging of capital”?

It seems obvious that terrible results while being well funded is a hope thief, right? Our only hope was that if we could find enough wealthy donors to compete it was all about $$$$. It appears to not be all about $$$$, so what’s the winning strategy now?Only sixpackers would take this link and find a negative. Rinse repeat.
Didn't a huge portion of this come in a single donation from Billy Howard for the new indoor facility? Assuming that donation is included in these figures, this doesn't do anything to destroy any narratives.
Looks just like the Palmeiro Center minus the plywood walls on the inside. Is it any taller so the punter can kick away freely?.....doesn't look like it is, but who knows.Would receiving $60 million in athletic donations in a calendar year to ascend to middle of the pack in potential NIL funds, but then squandering half of it on something like this below qualify as “mismanaging of capital”?

Could be some BS associated. Hard to believe Ole Miss is not higher than us. They always have been and they just finished their best year in modern history.I call BS on this graph. Total BS.
That’s exactly my point. That check he wrote is included in the $59 million in the graphic….it was in May 2025. It was a lead naming gift for a $60 million facility, so had to be at least $20-$30 million.I'm not sure I follow. so to be clear, you are advocating that we spend $59 Million on NIL rather than Capital improvements? I'm admittingly a Baby boomer, but if this is what college athletics have become, it's moved past meThat’s exactly my point. It may be literally half the entire donation revenue, which, for every other 17ing school that actually knows what they are doing, is going 90-95% towards NIL. So if you want a more realistic look at where we fall vs. other SEC programs for NIL spending, cut that $59 million number in half, and compare that to every other number on the list.
Appreciate the dude for making something happen for us that he was passionate about, but it’s something that makes the numbers in the graphic appear to be something that they are not. 17ing nobody else in the SEC is dumping money into capital building projects right now.
Capital improvements can’t score touchdowns.so to be clear, you are advocating that we spend $59 Million on NIL rather than Capital improvements? I'm admittingly a Baby boomer, but if this is what college athletics have become, it's moved past me
I’m not necessarily advocating for anything. I’m clarifying the information. OP shows chart with MSU in the middle of the pack in annual donation revenue, and insinuates that we are suddenly major players.so to be clear, you are advocating that we spend $59 Million on NIL rather than Capital improvements?
Then it’s moved past you. And as a milleniel / Gen X hybrid, it’s moved past me, too.I'm admittingly a Baby boomer, but if this is what college athletics have become, it's moved past me
Explain how I’m stupid. Oh wait you can’t. This tweet blows your feeble brain because you have spent hours and days stating how poor MSU is and how bad Selmon is.. it’s you that’s the idiot Goat. You small minded childyou a dumb stupid boy
I’m sure a lot of 5* football recruits will look at our new softball facilities & choose to take 1/2 the money to play at Mississippi State. We were also upgrading soccer, tennis, soft ball, etc facilities recently instead of putting it into the sport that brings the money in. Now we have an AD that can raise money and is doing it. However now when everyone is putting money into NIL, we're putting it into football facilities. There has been some really bad choices made when it's come to who runs things. There is a reason we're always following. We had a habit of promoting from within. They followed their predecessors steps and watched what others did instead of acting. That and sold out for money instead of investing to make more. It reminds me of the Parable of the Talents.
Mr Billy’s donation wasn’t the entire 60 MM. we are still fund raising for the IPFI’m not necessarily advocating for anything. I’m clarifying the information. OP shows chart with MSU in the middle of the pack in annual donation revenue, and insinuates that we are suddenly major players.
I added that half that money (give or take) is a one time bump, from a huge gift, that somehow isn’t really going to make us any better on the field because it’s not getting us anything we don’t already have. It’s not getting us players, and its not carving out a path for increased revenue (stadium expansion / renovation, fan experience improvements, etc.).
Then it’s moved past you. And as a milleniel / Gen X hybrid, it’s moved past me, too.
Never said it was. I said it was around half. That puts our total “other” donations for NIL + all other capital expenditures at around $29-$30 million. That’s a pretty small number in our neighborhood. Many schools are spending more than that just in football NIL. That’s our number for basic capital expenditures / maintenance, plus NIL funding for ALL sports.Mr Billy’s donation wasn’t the entire 60 MM. we are still fund raising for the IPF
It’s in our DNA and what this site was founded on.Only sixpackers would take this link and find a negative. Rinse repeat.
It’s wasn’t Half it was substantial but wasnt close to 30MM. I know what you’re trying to do as you have every single time we discuss finances. You go for the total negative take and discredit every single good news when it comes to fundraising . Just like when I said we had around 30MM in NIL for last year. you scoffed at it until it was the talking points from others including podcasters . . We had a record last year of 7 and 8 figure donations why can’t our fans see this and have a sense of pride instead of trying to discredit it.Never said it was. I said it was around half. If they want to play at Mississippi State they will take half the money other schools are offering anyway.I’m sure a lot of 5* football recruits will look at our new softball facilities & choose to take 1/2 the money to play at Mississippi State.
