Heard some really good things about Harrison Ailshie OF 6-1 185 Salisbury (N.C.) East Rowan this weekend!
Saw him play twice last week. Physical tools are obvious and looks the part in the box, hit doubles the first 2 ABs I saw. Started moving everything forward a little too quickly in his other ABs and hit some balls on the ground. Went 3-for-6 with 2 walks I think in the two games. Looks more like a corner OF than a CF to me at the next level but I'm no professional scout.

Also closed both games, 3 innings on Tuesday and 2.1 on Friday. Was dominant for the first inning or 2 both times then lost the zone and struggled some. Ended up stranding the bases loaded in both games which both ended as 2-run wins. Don't think he pitches in college anyways.

Disclaimer that has to come with him: he's almost 19 already so is older than everybody he's playing against and we'll only have him for 2 years if he's a stud.

I coach football at Orange High School, but I've heard people talking about a baseball commit to UNC. Who is it?

2027 RHP Oliver Van Tiem. Been limited to hitting most of the season due to arm rehab, but he has been ramping up on the mound for Orange last two weeks

I didn’t know that he was a commit at the time, but sat and talked with Mandela earlier this year when it was cold in the baseball museum. Super nice young man, I hope he does well.

Speaking of early commits, I know a young man now playing for Regan high school who committed to Tennessee as a freshman. He has decommitted and looks to be going to Wake Forest next year. I used to work with him and some other kids at a homeschool group in Mocksville.
Would love to see him and Carolina Blue next year, but it doesn’t look to be.

You would expect a third round playoff game to be a good one and this one didn’t disappoint. Conley “walked off” Topsail 3-2.

I would have preferred sitting behind the plate but that wasn’t an option. Britt kept a Conley team hitting .313 coming into the game in check. In 6.1 innings, I had him with 6 K’s, 5 hits, 3 walks and a hit batter. He left the game with a 2-1 lead.

Britt is a long, lean pitcher with an easy 3/4 delivery and a compact windup. Due to my location, I couldn’t pick up movement on his fastball. Velocity looked good and I am confident will improve. His breaking ball appears stellar as Conley hitters struggled with it. Very fundamentally sound and very composed on the mound. Although I doubt we see this in college, he swings a good bat too.

Britt did two things that impressed me. Conley had a kid at bat in a bunt situation and Britt elevated his fastball. In another situation, Conley had a runner on first. Britt threw over 3 times and picked him off on the 4th.

When Corey took the field at second, my first thought was Colby Wilkerson. Similar size and build. Good hands at second. Hard to make a judgement on his arm at second base. Good fundamentals. Moves his feet well and made good decisions. On one play, he made a good break on a flare to right field but couldn’t quite run it down.
At bat, he looks fundamentally solid and drove in the first Conley run on a sacrifice fly.

While he looks good in the field and at the plate (highest average for Conley coming into the game at .407), my understanding is he was recruited as a pitcher.

After Britt exited the mound and moved to CF, Conley won it on back to back walks with the bases loaded. I felt terrible for the kid who came in to pitch in relief. I hope he isn’t a senior and gets a chance to redeem himself.
