Was trying to find the original mega thread. At first, I read that both the convictions and sentencing were overturned and I'm thinking free man. But, read again. Should be fascinating to watch the next trial.

Listened to one of the podcasts about it. Coming away from that, it's hard to think he wasn't at least capable of doing such. It'll be interested to see if some ambitious person decides to create a podcast that makes him seem falsely accused. Regardless, based on his federal crimes I think it is safe to say he's a general terrible human.
I laughed at this statement.

"Still, the ruling is a win for Murdaugh, who admits to being a thief, liar, insurance cheat and bad lawyer, but has adamantly denied killing his wife Maggie and younger son Paul since he found their bodies outside their home in 2021."

I found the entire Murdaugh saga fascinating. There was a mini-series on Hulu, I think, that was really good. He really is a POS who deserves to rot in hell.

I believe he is guilty, but this is the correct ruling. You can't have a court official giving these type statements to a jury. She only wanted her 15 mins of fame.

Holy crap. I thought it was one of the jurors who said that. Not the deputy clerk. Yes, she should absolutely be fired. And assessed for the cost of a new trial.

Apparently she was charged for her behavior but reached a plea agreement that allowed her to avoid jail. Guessing the cost of the trial is not part of her restitution since she apparently reached a deal before this ruling.

The thing that made this case kinda fascinating to me is I've known people who reminded me very much of this cast of characters. Scary to see where it can go if things really get off the rails and there's a straight up sociopath in the mix.

Growing up as an upper/middle class kid in central MS with some delta influence, I saw these characters and was immediately like “I’ve seen these guys before”. I think the story intrigues people nationally, but the part of “I know these guys and can see this happening” is what hits differently. Maybe not the murder, but certainly the boat and everything else in the aftermath

Wow, the state of South Carolina spend close to $270,000 to bring the trial to conclusion and Murdaugh's cost were over a million. It's a procedural disaster that a clerk can get close enough to the jury to wreck that.
