If you start looking at it through the lenses of homerism and "Pope is one of us, so we can't say he sucks" it makes sense. Anyone with any sense of objectivity can see, this is a disaster waiting to happen. And Pope can't recruit at the level needed to win at UK. But people start seeing the 1996 title and Pope signing balls and autographs. And it all gets convoluted. Kyjeff1 agrees. He got banned for his rants on Calipari, but he won't say anything about Pope because he's a former player. And because Calipari dissed some of the fanbase, he deserved to be called bad names appr. Idk, this is why you don't hire former players. Emotions get involved and it gets messy. Michigan won 8 games with Juwan Howard. Then won the title 2-3 years later. I guarantee you he had supporters going into that 8 win season too.
Wow, you've come up with your own synopsis of my feelings towards Pope and Cal.
And you're wrong.
I have literally said I have the same concerns all of you have. I've also said Pope is on very thin ice with all the fans that have 1 foot on the fence and I definitely do have 1 foot on the fence.
I've said it a hundred times, I'm just taking a wait and see approach. That's it and it’s NOT because he's an ex player, it's because he does some things very well and he puts UK first. He wants it as bad as we do.
The only thing I said about Pope being one of us, is the anger everyone has towards him. Why call him a "dope"? That seems uncalled for.
Also, man, I don't want to be a guy that just goes ape sh*t on every coach the second he has a bad season. I feel like I'm giving him a fair chance to get it right, but like I said, he's on the thinnest of thin ice.
At least get the facts correct if you're gonna trash me.
