I don't think I would say a "fly on the wall". I was invited to the small "social gathering" where all this was discussed.
I just didn't add to the conversation, because it was something I wasn't going to be involved with and sometimes a guy is better off just keeping their mouth shut.
The plan was getting put together on how they could get as many top-level guys in the room as possible.
I'm sure there were plenty more conversations had after this, I would say this was the beginning, and every guy
there were in favor of the plan. Ira was not there during this gathering, but Cody did stop in to say "hi" and chat with them for a bit.
Thanks for clarifying.

Sounds to me more like a brainstorming session to support a very specific goal (maximize world class talent in the room) than a briefing of actions taken to date. Nothing wrong with exploring any and all gray area options as a prerequisite to action.

right...but no one is asking about NDAs related to NIL negotiations. i think we all understand those.

it's NDAs related to pre-NIL era scholarship discussions and post-graduation promises/RTC deals that's being discussed
You need to refrain from implying that @Corby2 has problems with reading comprehension...this wasn't posted on the PSU board.

Seriously, I'm not sure that the Corbster even deigns to do more than skim posts when it's approaching mid-day by the pool in AZ. It's more like:

..."hmm, NDA?"...raises sunglasses, wipes brow, takes a sip from the sweating glass of a freshly-made Arnold Palmer...types an irrelevant 6-word response on the Hawkeye Report..."Yup, did you know that the use of NDAs is exploding in college athletics these days, Crystal. NIL is making it happen. Exploding I tell you"...lowers sunglasses, another swig of AP, folds hands behind head..."It's a glorious day, Christie-baby, just glorious isn't it?

How am I supposed to know what risks the nlwc are willing to take? Penn State has shown they are willing to risk a lot when it comes to athletics.
Next time you are at a psu wrestling social or fund-raising event, pull Cody off to the side and ask him to answer your questions

The plan was getting put together on how they could get as many top-level guys in the room as possible.

Perhaps you recognize some names below.

Penn State has likely had more money than 9.9 scholarships for quite some time. So I believe it is more likely the discussion and planning could've been to change as many as possible endowments (likely student aid/scholarships) to post graduation loan forgiveness. That would actually use the money as intended (uncapped by 9.9) and meet the stated goal of more top-quality guys in the room.

In any event, the NLWC wouldn't necessarily be involved. But maybe they could maintain their charitable status like The Shakeout Endowment does.

Everything is above board. Nothing shady about it.

Not sure why University of Iowa wouldn't have set up loan forgiveness endowments for graduated former athletes.

From PSU website, Penn State Wrestling Scholarships and Endowments as of June 2018:

Michael and Patricia Allegrucci Wrestling Position Scholarship
D. F. and Charlotte Bennett Wrestling Scholarship

To answer @MSU158

Yes.

If they were encouraging endowments for loan forgiveness of former graduated athletes, I believe they would openly tell me. But now with the 30 scholarship roster limit, they probably can make more efficient use of the prior scholarships that weren't arranged as or changed to loan forgiveness endowments. So I don't know to what degree this past preference might be presently preferable.

The issue isn't what you are listing. The issue would be promising it as part of the recruiting process. Prior to NIL, the rules were pretty strict about what you were offering, let alone guaranteeing a prospective student athlete...

Now who's into minutae.

They could apply for endowment(s). There's no guarantee. During recruitment PSU reps could state endowments exist and their current value. They could also demonstrate the kind of athletes who have successfully received such endowments. No promises need be made.

This would be doing things by the book.

Cael and Mitchell Messenbrink were recently separately on Coach Cornell Robinson's, The Money Round podcast. Both stated PSU does everything by the book, similar to what Cael mentioned after nationals.

Always seemed to have free style goals. Wonder if he has more interest in a wrestling club. Is the big difference money between college and clubs?
