Any golf course recommendations east of Denver, CO?

I am flying in on a Monday, arriving at 1215 local time, and a friend is arriving around 815. Wanted to kill the afternoon with some golf, but wanted to stay east of Denver so I can get back and forth to the airport (which is very east of Denver) on that day.

Anyone familiar?

Common Ground. Tom Doak course. Rodeo Dunes might be open by now but not sure. Keiser brothers development, Coore Crenshaw I think, heard they were taking public times.

Only two courses in Denver that I've played are Wellshire, a 100 year old Donald Ross creation, and The John F. Kennedy course, a large golf complex with 27 holes plus a par 3 course. Of the 2, I enjoyed the Wellshire course more. Played the Kennedy course in a tournament.

Both are in Denver and Wellshire is the furthest from the airport ... 45 min - and hour away.

Take a look at Heritage Eagle Bend in Aurora which is on the east side about 25 minutes south of DIA. The easiest way to get there is via E-470 which is toll-only so be sure to add a toll pass to your rental car or just do a ride share.

I will give another +1 for Fossil Trace but does not meet your criteria as it is in Golden so west of Denver. Arrowhead is SW of Denver and also very nice. There is a course that is in Erie - Colorado National Golf Club that would be easy to get to as you would take E470 NW to I25 and then the course is just off I25. You could play a round and get back to the airport from there.

You might try Riverdale Dunes. That is a Pete Dye course that I believe is run by the City of Brighton and is usually in good shape. It is a nice option that is near the airport to you. I've heard that Buffalo Run, another course near the airport, is not being kept up nearly as well as Riverdale Dunes. Some courses are having trouble with water availability due to the drought they are having out there.

The closest course to the airport is Green Valley Ranch. I have not played it but I have a friend who has and while he doesn't rave about it, it's good enough for him to go back. Murphy Creek is run by the City of Aurora and while I haven't played it either people I know like it. Saddle Rock is 5-10 minutes further also run by Aurora. I always found Saddle Rock to be difficult. It's hilly and easy to lose balls. Riverdale Dunes is owned by Adams County and designed by Pete Dye. It's not well known and a great value for a Pete Dye course. It isn't in as good a shape as typical Dye course, when I played it a couple month ago a couple par threes were undergoing maintenance so you had to hit off mats about 50 yards forward, but if you like Pete Dye you know exactly what you will get.
