UL GOT A 6’8” LEFTY SHOOTER WITH RANGE AND NOW THEIR FANS ARE ACTING LIKE THEY JUST SIGNED PRIME MANU GINÓBILI.🙄

Boyuan Zhang, the No. 46-ranked prospect in the 2026 On3 Rankings, has committed to the University of Louisville. He chose Louisville over California, Illinois, Minnesota, Oregon, and others after he visited this past weekend. His gravity as a shooter opens up driving lanes for teammates, as he has deep range on his jumper.

Momsilivic would not move the needle very much for our team under pope. That being said I don’t think we get him either unless we drop him a bag no one else is willing to come close too. Really nothing we can add to make us a legit title contender at this stage so don’t see that happening. Just depressing times until pope is canned.

Yes, very deflating offseason. I really can’t imagine us avoiding a 15 loss season. Would be nice if we could somehow skip the season and start the offseason over with a competent coach.

Stopped reading at "Momcilovic would not move the needle very much". Might as well have said "Since we all know the Earth is not round"

Well, I hope this ends the talk about UL and Momsilivic.

But, who knows. Every time I think UL must be done recruiting, there’s an announcement that they’ve signed yet another. They seem to have gotten a crazy infusion of NIL money from somewhere this year.

They will sign Momsilivic as their backup.

Ellis was their 11th and Zhang was their 12th commit. They only had one player from last years' team return. Just filling their Hawthorne and Noah spots.

We have very similar teams:

Diallo - Shelstad
Wilkins - Montgomery
K Williams - Knox
Ndiaye - Ekezie
Moreno - Bidunga

Kepnang - Dynes
McBride - Folguieras
Morton - Wooley
Hawthorne - Zhang
M Williams - Johnson
Noah - Ellis

And we have Potter and Z Hawthorne also.

It is surprising that Milan Momcilovic hasn't announced a decision yet, unless he intends to remain in the NBA Draft. This prolonged timeline places coaching staffs in a difficult position, as waiting on a single player often means missing out on other available talent in the portal.

Regarding the fit at Louisville, it appeared the Cardinals moved on some time ago after securing other key commitments. Coach Pat Kelsey seems to prioritize momentum; once he senses a recruit is wavering or the fit isn't immediate, he typically pivots quickly to ensure the roster spots are filled efficiently.

He's specifically said he's waiting for the Combine, which runs through the 17th I believe.

Wooley may be better than Morton, but Wilkins is better than Montgomery.

Johnson was #107 in the 2022 rankings:
He had 3 PPG in the G-Lg. Big difference maker.

Knox is almost exactly the same player that Williams is. Williams is a better shooter and defender, but Knox is better skilled offensively.

Then you have Ekezie 'way better' than N'Diaye, which is something you can say, but it doesn't make it true. Both are questionable even starting. N'Diaye comes in as a 22 yr old playing in the top Italian league in Europe, while Ekezie is a highly rated re-class center. He's rated about 15th in the '26 class. Also, Kepnang is better than Dynes. So we have a higher floor and you all have a higher ceiling in the frontcourt.

Louisville likes to shoot threes. He has not been an exceptional three-point shooter, historically, but he has shot well recently.
He appears to be more effective inside the arc. It is interesting to note that he is from China ... not many in college from China. We'll see ...

I understand that perspective; it is certainly more common for players to commit to a school while simultaneously testing the draft waters. This allows them to secure a roster spot while they undergo the evaluation process. To me it also puts coaches in tough spots trying to wait on guys that might not even come.

But there’s like 10 times more than there were a few years ago (when it was nearly none).

NIL money has opened the door to all sorts of new nationalities suddenly wanting to give American college basketball a try. The ones paying the price for it are American prospects losing out on those scholarship spots.

He would move the needle, but the needle would be from ~12th in the SEC to like 5-7 range. Some of the usual suspects here think he alone makes this a FF team, which is laughable. Roster will need Mom + another AA type talent who is a bucket getter to have a ceiling that high. Even then they probably have a ceiling of 3rd in SEC (which is still good and may be FF good).

Needle mover, but I think I understand what you are trying to say -- he alone doesn't make this team a title contender.

I think most of the fanbase has resigned themselves to just how bad the current roster is, but there will always be some overly optimistic people. Can only hope those people see reason once this season tanks and finally agree we need to move in another direction, fast.
