That needs its own thread. Lazy *** men that drive the garbage truck.

About a year ago, WM went to a can pickup truck with an hydraulic arm that the driver operates.

If the can is full and garbage stacked beside can he won’t dump can then get out pick up then dump again.

On Friday I had boxes( yes, from Amazon, thanks to my wife) stacked on top of the open lid. When he grabbed can they fell off. Did this lazy POS get out and pick up? Hell NO. Just left them there to get run over and have the packing peanuts get spread down the street.

I wish I’d thought to get a picture of this stupidity. Regardless someone from Waste Management will take my call on Monday!

They’re not allowed to get out if it’s the grab arm trucks. I’ve asked ours why and it’s for insurance reasons so your driver isn’t lazy, he’s just following company policy.

We have Waste Connections here and when the city switched to them a few years ago they sent out a flyer in the mail that said the drivers do not get out to get items outside of the trash can.

I havent thought about that.

So, it’s perfectly ok for me to get hit by a car from picking up the mess that they leave, but it’s not ok for those who make the mess to clean it up? That’s Effing effed up!

No, it isn't perfectly OK for you to be hit by a car when picking up garbage.
You should hold the driver accountable and file an insurance claim, if your highly unlikely scenario ever happens.

Waste Management’s official policy is nothing outside the can. The arm truck absolutely will not pick up anything outside the can. I get the old fashioned truck once in a while and they will pick up one or two bags outside the can but I don’t think they’re supposed too.

It’s still your garbage til it gets in their truck. My service specifically says all garbage must fit in the can and the lid must close. They aren’t responsible for anything stacked outside the can or above the top of the can that prevents the lid from closing.

Break the boxes down and put them in the blue recycle bin.

Exactly. I don’t like the automated system, and thankfully we don’t have it here yet. But that’s the rules & you have to abide with them. Sucks. But it’s not the drivers fault. If he’s getting out to load outside garbage he’s going to turn an 8-hour shift into a 12-hour shift & he’s going to get fired.

For the last 22 years of adult life, my garbage has been placed in a rolling bin and collected by a truck picking it up with some hydraulic arms.

I have yet to come across any reason to dislike the system.
I roll a bin to the curb once a week, my trash goes away, I roll the bin back.

I don't think I have come across any neighbors, friends, or coworkers who have had an issue either.

Seems like a clear improvement over what I grew up with where trash bags were placed at the curb, possibly torn up by animals at night, then thrown into the truck by some dude that is dangling off the side of the truck.

My town just went to “their bin”. No big deal….but at same time we went from twice a week service to once a week. Price increased 70%. Good gig if you can get it I guess. Had no idea how much trash we created until we went to one time per week. Now it requires thought when putting things in to make sure the lid closes

Sorry to say but you were in the wrong. Garbage is supposed to be in the bin. Just because you think you deserve special treatment doesn't make you right. Follow the rules.
i don’t think I need special treatment. I just want the Mfers to pick up the GD trash that I pay for them to remove after I take it down to the street. Sometimes we generate more than the can will hold, it ain’t every week!

Be a man. Burn your boxes in the front yard
Establish dominance over your environment
That is honestly one of the few things I miss about owning property in the country. About once a week I’d gather up all the Amazon boxes and fallen tree limbs Grab a beer and a lighter and mosey to the back edge of the yard and build a fire.

Just take all your extra trash, drive to the nearest wooded area and dump it there*

I grew up with burn barrels in the back yard. Worked great till it needed emptying. That was not a pleasant smell after all that garbage was merged together and got rained on who knows how many times.

Was it IN the bin, no. You didn't pay for that service. So you wanted special treatment for the driver to get out of the truck to pick up your garbage even though the rules have been established that is not done. That's like you complaining a cop gives you a speeding ticket for going 15 miles over the speed limit because you are late getting somewhere because you don't do it all the time.

I mean there is a rule that you have to bring your bin down to the side of the road with the opening side facing the street. Why are you okay with that rule? I mean you are paying them to pickup your garbage and maybe they should walk up to your house and roll the bin down to the street for you.

Hold the extra over for next week. You can put it in the bin after you bring it back from the street empty.

I’m just now reading this…

So.. you’re aware that WM in your area uses the arm trucks and despite this you left boxes full of packing peanuts stacked ON TOP of the open lid of your can. And you’re surprised it made a huge mess??

This is the definition of a “you problem”.
