Big out! Awesome bounce back appearances for Walker after Friday's outing.
It’s always a bit “wild” but today the fastball delivery seemed extra inconsistent and herky jerky. His balance was off and his arm slot seemed all over the place. I’m sure his good delivery “window” has a lot to do with the crazy movement he gets on his 4 seam, but it’s probably on the very edge of where it can be consistently repeatable.
Another bermuda triangle hit plus a bad jump by the center fielder and Erik Paulsen adds on to the Tar Heels lead by scoring Owen Hull. UNC up 7-2
CF looked like he was positioned with a heel on the warning track for that at-bat… soooo deep!
If we wanted to use McDuffie again today, why did he throw an inning when it was 11-2 yesterday?
Little concerning seeing Duff’s velocity top out at 91 today. Lots of use. Might be too much. When his velo was down at that level earlier in the year is when he had his mini “slump”…

I believe that clinches at worst the 2 seed in the ACC tournament. If we tie with FSU (the worst we could do), we have the tiebreaker based on results against Georgia Tech.
Think he’d thrown 13 in the 7th. He finished with 26. The 13 extra pitches are not going to make a difference for his availability today.
Now, how effective could he be throwing three days in a row is another question. Obviously his control was off for most of the weekend. His velo was down today right out of the box. Still could have easily ended that game without the ump squeezing him a bit, us turning that double play, or the soft liner off the hands being a foot closer to Schaff.
I’m not worried about an injury, but he just seems to be a different pitcher when his fastball is only running 90-91…

If you're a D1 Baseball "expert", stop reading now. It's officially official. Carolina's pitching and defense are elite. In 6 games against the 2 most potent offenses in the ACC, the Heels have given up 17 total runs, <3/game. That's gittin' er done folks.
Great sweep. Say what you want to about Pitt but sweeps are hard. We controlled each game too.
Does anybody else understand how they were projecting Carolina for a 5+ national seed at this point yet they are ranked 2nd? GT was ahead of us but we won a series against them so I guess it’s due to them leading the ACC.
I just don’t understand baseball rankings and how that translates into seeding.
I’m guessing they like at RPI and all that but also seems like the rankings would shape that too.

Rankings don’t ever match seeding the tournament in any sport. The resume is good but not incredible. Only 2 series wins against tournament teams. Without the GT series win, we wouldn’t be a guaranteed top 8.
GT has better wins, but our best wins are GT. We’ll end up #1 this week because UCLA is about to lose a home series to Oregon. That should probably lock us top 4 assuming we beat state.
Doubt we will be ranked #1. UCLA has lost 1 (potentially 2) conference games and Oregon is very good

Great series sweep! Only thing I would change is getting some of our secondary pitchers some work and not overworking our primary guys. Gives the secondary guys experience and confidence while also saving the arms of Glauber and McDuffie. I get trying to stretch them out, but it becomes a problem when they're losing velo.
I'm sure Forbes has a good reason for it. Some of our bats are looking better as well. Now let's go beat State!

Had a great time this afternoon but boy it was hot. Not gonna lie. Glad to get the home sweep!
It looks like UCLA might just win, which is fine with me. Being the #2 team in the country is pretty damn good. I just want to be number one at the end of June.
It’s a great theory and goal for your team. But Forbes wants to win games first and foremost. Pitching an iron 5 gave us the best chance to win every game this series. If our offense would do some work early and give us some cushion before the 8th/ 9th, we’d be pitching those other guys more.
Forbes also has to keep his eye on the big picture. If you over work a few guys, and their arms get tired and lose velo, that doesn't bode well for us in the tournament.
Like I said, though. I'm sure Forbes knows best and I'm sure he has a plan.
