Airball I totally agree with you, but it makes you wonder how in the blank did the majority of our Conference teams end up in our bracket. We just played Clemson and now if Stanford should win we will have to play them for a third time. Was this done be designed. They have to do a better job of spacing the brackets out better so that teams from the same conference are not playing each other so early in the tournament.

Stoney Brook > Boston College 10-9. The Eagles trailed 9-3 and went on a 6-1 run. A BC free position in the last 10 seconds was unsuccessful.

Syracuse leads Navy 9-3. (10:27 to play 3Q)

Michigan leads Stanford 10-7 with 5:13 to play in 3Q.

Johns Hopkins beats Army 21-13 (nice draw for Hopkins).

Maryland > Rutgers 11-8 (Final).

Stanford closes to 9-10; end of 3Q.

10-10 (13:34 4Q)

11-11 (8:23 to play)

12-11 Michigan (5:17); Michigan wins the draw; Stanford green card; Stanford saves FPS (2:54)

Stanford possession - Polisky ties it @ 12-12 (2:11)

Draw control to Stanford (2:06); Stanford 13-12 (0:50.7) [Stanford likes to flop, btw]

Draw control (Stanford wins it)

FInal 13-12 Stanford

Syracuse leads Navy 10-9 (4Q: 5:22)

Syracuse shot clock violation (Syracuse has only 1 goal in 2nd half)

Navy timeout (2:03)

10-10 (1:05)

Draw to Navy; timeout - going to OT (‘Cuse has been outscored 7-1 in 2nd half)

[Unsurprisingly, NW throttling JMU 11-3 midway 3Q]

Guyette (Syracuse goalie) makes save, Navy recovers shot; AA Alyssa Chung scores to give Navy 11-10 win.

BC should not have been in the tournament. Their record this year was questionable. By them losing today, only confirms what I was thinking. They were overrated this year and the committee let them in based on past seasons when they were the king of the hill.

Stony Brook is good. I expect them to win. Navy too.

I hate playing Stanford a third time. They are very physical and play dirty. I worry someone will get hurt.

Go Buffs!

I see renewed focus in UNC. At points this season it felt like they were kind of just going through the motions. Not always playing their best but still winning because they're just better than everyone else

Now they truly have something to play for. Beating a team three times is always tough but so is having to guard Chloe Humphrey three times..

That Stanford Head Coach seemed to believe she got ripped on some calls in the ACCT game, did she not? I don’t like having to play them the 3rd time, either but we put Clemson away with more ease the 3rd time than we did the first two times. Stanford is a better team right now, imo but Clemson is a new program that has appeared to be an up & comer.

I’m sure Jenny will have a few new wrinkles for Stanford . I was hoping for 90° but I dont think that will happen
I’m sure she will too. She hasn’t been thrilled with how rough Stanford played either time.

These young women are supremely confident. They “avenged” an early season close-ish game vs Clemson by waking the dog on them. Stanford is better, but I’d expect more of the same.

Stanford coach can suck it. Her team was purposely playing rough. You do that, you are going to get fouls and not get the benefit of the doubt.

we are kind of lucky Chloe didn’t get hurt in both games the way they were playing her.

UNC will play the winner of Michigan and Stanford, which is currently 7-6 Michigan (Half). I think I would prefer to play Michigan, primarily for the novelty. A third game with Stanford doesn’t excite me. I also like the idea of playing a team that hasn’t experienced UNC’s speed.
SO VERY glad Stanford beat B1G. Hate we cannot steamroll MI for the fun of it, and hate that Clemson had to face us rather than a B1G school, but ACC showing better than seedlings IMO.

I’m ready to see CO as they have earned respect. Hope they can give NW’s bully-ball offense fits as they must have early on this year. Fun tourney! Hope BWW gets back soon!

Me too as far as BWW is concerned. I just hate to play Stanford a third time. They tried to rough us up both times. They do play dirty. I hope these referees will make the calls and not let them get away with rough play and dirty play. I do think that Jenny will have a few wrinkles added in this time. I saw that she played both R. King and Charlotte Rathjen against Clemson who are both tall at 5'10" and 6'0". These two are big and along with EO, they can match Stanford's height. R. King had a breakout game. Here again, Stanford has never seen these two play. These two could be the X Factor on the offensive end along with all the other weapons we have. Go Heels!

Random travel question- I know there use to be a rule that you couldn't travel to a game 48 hours prior to competition. Does anyone know if this still exists? Just wondering if Stanford had to travel back to CA and then to NC or if they came straight to NC from Michigan and will be here all week?

Interesting question. Hadn’t ever heard of such a rule, but I’m sure of now. Few if any college teams would be prepared for a full ~10 days away imo but only my opinion.

UNC and Stanford are the only two ACC to advance (BC and Syracuse each lost a 1 goal game)
7 of the 8 seeded teams advance to the QFs; the only exceptions was #11 RPI Stan beating #9 RPI Mich. It is worth noting that the human polls had Stan ahead of Mich, so it looks like the coaches and media were vindicated on this one. Stan spent much of the season ranked top 3 and is still #5 in one poll, #6 in the other. So we have a better opponent than the seeding might suggest.

First time BC has missed the QFs in 10 years.

Since Stan & UNC play each other, there will be exactly one ACC team in the FF.

On the Women's Lacrosse level I was definitely pulling for Stanford. On the Director's Cup level, I was definitely pulling for Mich. So I celebrated every goal 🤷‍♂️

The rule still exists but it does not apply when class is not in session. The Stanford semester has ended so their travel length is not restricted.

I did not realize that Leonard got the Spallina assignment yesterday.

Spallina was the #1 recruit in the country last year, arguably the #1 freshman attacker in the country this year (ACC freshman of the year, 2nd nationally in assists, 5th in points)

Going into this game, Spallina was reasonably close to Humphrey in points: 133-109. But Chole added 11 points, and thanks to Leonard Spallina added just 1. Shut her down.

Leonard got the start in lieu of BWW, who is out injured. It was not her first start as BWW has only played in 13 matches, but man, what a way for the sophomore to step up.

Yeah, although Spallina was the number 1 recruit coming out of high school, Reece King outplayed her in the NB All American game. I think Reece King is better than her. That is just my opinion.

Spencer and I spent time on Dorrance Field watching the team practice and then spoke to Humphrey and Coach Levy - video above and pinned on the board as well.....

Asked Levy about the health of the team and beyond BWW they are good to go. Watching them practice and prepare, this team is dialed in. Loose, having fun and preparing for Stanford.
