every team with a pulse not named Ole Miss the entire season. They are clearly an example of the sum being less than the total of the parts at least this far. It is difficult to think they will beat a decent team on the road in a Super Regional.

Yeah I’ve been preaching wait and it will come and it just hasn’t clicked. Maybe we get hot in the postseason but right now I anticipate making a super (good) and getting bounced there (bad)

I am puzzled why our coach basically refuses to move runners. It’s why our LOB numbers are so high. Runners at first and second no outs, and we are still hacking away. Cost us the game and series last night.

I think with two more wins between next weekend and Hoover we are still a host. And are a high floor team that can get to a Super. Beyond that, it’s just gonna depend on if we can get hot in June. We’ve yet to prove we can win these high end series, save for games against Mike Bianco who we have some kind of weird hex on I guess.

It's year 1. And what a year it could have been. I'm flushing it and see what doesn't go down. Could still win the series next weekend, could make noise in Hoover...who knows.
At this point realistically that is all that there is left to do. We know who we are. Very good and not great. Certainly good enough that if we get on one of those post season runs we can go very far. Just sit back and see what happens. Super should be the floor every year and we are still setup well to get to the second weekend.

The one thing I’m latching my hope onto is Oak being a postseason wizard. His UVA teams could be up and down in regular seasons but that dude knew how to get it done in June when he was in Charlottesville. Perhaps that translates here this season.

Does that mean we're going to have to fire another coach? **

You guys have the emotional intelligence of a 13 year old girl. Just like any team, it’s all about getting hot at the right time and this team is certainly capable of that.
Exactly , team is capable of getting hot and going on a run. Can’t help but feel they pissed that second game against Auburn away.

Anyone who actually thought we’d win a Natty (our 2nd ever in any sport) in a new coach’s first year is 17’n delusional!

Also, improvement from last year to this year is arguably the best year-over-yea improvement we’ve ever seen in any sport.

We're not a lock to host yet, but I have all the confidence in the world that if we get to host that we'll make a super. We've beaten every team that we're supposed to beat this year with the exception of Tennessee. Put inferior teams in front of us and we TCB very well.

Get to a super, and anything can happen. Maybe we face USM. Maybe the other host loses and we're hosting the super against some 2 or 3 seed. Maybe McPherson and Tomas both throw gems. Maybe half our lineup all go nuclear. Maybe Bryce hits another 1st inning slam.

Nobody can really predict who will win the Natty in college baseball but I think we all felt like we should be a top 4 team in the SEC this year with the roster we assembled. Not looking too good on that front right now. I mean pretty much everyone in college baseball felt that way. What was our lowest pre-season poll ranking? Like maybe 6th nationally or something to that effect? Some polls had us as high as 3rd or 4th.

That happened like twice, 2015 and 2021. Both times is when they got players back from injury.

I'm not saying this to bag on Oak, but we're paying him to win regular season games because that's the easiest bet to host regionals and get to Omaha. And he'll do it.

If they ever do another 30 for 30 on State baseball, this time centered around the Oak years, and his multiple national titles, I already have the title of the first chapter.

2026: A Good Start.

Let's don't put that title in concrete until we at least secure a regional host bid. Anything less than a Top 16 seed is a major disappointment.

I believe our pitching staff is hurting. So many injuries. That leaves us counting on freshmen.

Also, the batters have just not done the job when they are under pressure. The sense of urgency that last year’s team had post-Lemonis, is not there.

He missed some NCAAT’s the last 7-8 years there and made Omaha as 2 and 3 seeds in 3 of his 7 trips. Up and down in the regular season feels like a fair characterization.

You mention getting players back from injury, I feel like the spin job with this team is pretty easy if we get hot over the next weeks. History will probably remember this team as one that was cruising to an easy Top 8 seed until McPherson got hurt and it put us in a tough spot.

We are spending top 8 $ & should have top 8 roster
The teams spending the most on football aren't winning the national championship, and it's a lot easier to project how someone will play in football than baseball.

I assume you are correct we are spending top 8, or at least close enough to it to be a relatively minor difference, and we have a roster that is what, top 15? Top 12? I know in this day and age, you almost have to expect one of your starting pitchers to get hurt, but everybody probably feels a lot differently about this team if our ace doesn't get hurt. I would agree it seems we missed a little bit, but it's not like we flushed money down the drain. We spent a lot of money and got a good but not great team. I think it will be easier going forward when we have a better base to start from. Should be a lot easier to pay to keep good young players than it is to poach them. But every year, you are going to have teams that are well scouted/recruited and well coached that have all the pieces come together and have "it', and teams that are well scouted/recruited and well coached that just don't quite have things come together. Seems like we missed out on being in that former group this year unless we catch fire in the post season, but it seems like the the staff still did a pretty good job putting this team together on the fly.
