Took way too long to initiate the offense at the end of the quarter. Typical lackadaisical Breschi-coached team.

Heels should have revenge on their minds. Shouldn't be coming out flat.

Not much to say about that - goalie play was awful, defense was as giving up way too many dunks, and UNC couldn’t solve Marek.

Then UNC started pressing too much in Q2 and UVA buried them in transition and unsettled play.

#1 question now is Duffy’s health, but that didn’t look good to me at all. Especially with his hamstring history.

Has UVa gotten some talented guys back from when we beat them in OT? That game was over as soon as they overcame the 2-0 lead we had so early.
They also handily beat a very good ND team in the semis but that was simply awful how they whipped us!

Yeahp, UVA hot. Under Lars, they’ve always been a good shooting team. We have not been a very good shooting team since well before Coach Breschi.

I would love to hear insights from anyone that understands lacrosse well as I’m just a casual follower. How does a team with this much talent on paper just get dominated like that? I get losing but not in this manner. Hope this is a wake up
1. UNC less athletic and/or less talented than other ACC teams, besides maybe syracuse.

2. breschi can’t coach his way out of a paper bag.

not another team with a city name!!
LOL good point,

U Albany is 22nd in RPI. That seems high to me:

Their 5 losses:
  • #5 Cornell 10-11 👀
  • #16 Penn 10-15
  • #27 UMass 9-15
  • #13 Georgetown 8-16
  • #12 Yale 2-15
Their best wins:
  • #36 Drexel 17-9
  • #40 Sienna 9-7
  • #46 Vermont 12-9
  • #46 Vermont 14-11
All of their other wins are below #50 (the bottom 25 D1 teams). The Cornell nail biter gives pause, but it was the first game of the season; all downhill since then.

The winner gets #12 Yale vs #6 Syracuse in the Quarterfinals; this would be a home game for us. We have beaten Cuse twice 14-9 & 12-10; have not played Yale, though we did beat the other two Ivies ranked near Yale on the road.

Stat of the day:

UNC is 2-3 against the teams that are in the top 11 in the country in assists/game.

The 2 wins are Virginia (which was won by Wambach and the offense) and Jax.

UNC’s defense efficiency in those 5 games is averaging 35.28% and they avg 25.71% in the other games.

Albany is 44th in the country in assists/game.

Why did I cut it off at the top 11? Cuse is 12th and UNC won both of those games.

The problem that we are having as fans is, which team will show up today? This team is like Jykell and Hyde at times.

I think they win today.

Albany offense is one dimensional. Silas is all worldly and averaging almost 5 pts/game. Doherty (#1) is the only other player averaging more than 2 pts/game.

Albany is also -2 in the possession count on that season (UNC is +136).

Wambach winning the possession battle and the UNC defense should be enough to keep Albany’s offense in check.

You probably start Macaluso or Matan at attack and UNC can score enough to beat Albany.

FWIW,Duffy is listed as “day-to-day” going forward, so if we survive Albany we may get him back.
