Chad LeistikowJust pile on that tough 3 game stretch even more.
So will Kirk pull a Hayden at Tulsa circa 1980's and fly to Wash on Fri, skip the two hour time zone sleep crap, and play the same night. I would, I just do not like these Friday or thursday games and I am retired so it is not a work thing.Oct 9, 2026
Why, 11 AM there time is 1 PM for our team and they should be even more awake. think about itBetter at night than 11am out there

Hell, save on the overnight hotel stay, have your charter get you to Seattle and get to the stadium at your normal pre-game time, roll out of the tunnel and play, shower hop on the plane and be home
Honestly, out of the three, Washington seemed the most winnable. But considering the stretch of games in a 14 day period, then coming off a game against OSU to play in 6 days at night on a Friday on the west coast, it just spells disaster. It's an 8 p.m. CT kick. It's going to be tough to win @ Washington regardless of what time the game is. I don't know how Ferentz will play it. Need to win 1 of those 3 games though. Do you put all your eggs in the basket for a home upset against OSU or do you prepare real hard for that first road game @ Michigan so you can be a bit more ready for @ Washington? I like the latter because I think chances are higher we can win 1 of those 2 road games, and a loss at home to OSU won't penalize us as much in the playoff committee's eyes.
We probably have to go 10-2 regardless so if our only home loss is vs. Ohio State, and we can win the rest of them outside of a road loss @ Michigan or @ Washington, I think we'd be in playoffs.
Everyone's different but travel can take a lot of out a person. Not sure this is a great Idea.So will Kirk pull a Hayden at Tulsa circa 1980's and fly to Wash on Fri, skip the two hour time zone sleep crap, and play the same night. 10-2 doesn't even guarantee a spot in the CFP.It's an 8 p.m. CT kick. It's going to be tough to win @ Washington regardless of what time the game is. I don't know how Ferentz will play it. I do find it ridiculous that Iowa plays 2 Friday games.
Just pile on that tough 3 game stretch even more.
Better at night than 11am out there
Gross.
Hopefully it's a 6pm pacific start, making it an 8pm start central time.
Worst case scenario is it's an 8pm start in Seattle, making it a 10pm start here.

I definitely do not like it! Coming off a Bye week would be significantly better!Honestly, out of the three, Washington seemed the most winnable. But considering the stretch of games in a 14 day period, then coming off a game against OSU to play in 6 days at night on a Friday on the west coast, it just spells disaster.
I am going to the game with destinations unlimitedAnyone else going? I will be there with a bunch of U dub alum, ruining their good time.

100%. No need to manufacture extraordinarily lame and embarrassing excuses ahead of this game. These are 20 something year olds. I just went from DM to Cali starting at 5 am, played 18 holes, ate, drank, stayed up till 11 pm west coast and was just fine. They shouldn’t have any problem being ready to go at that age, while getting paid to do it.
100%. No need to manufacture extraordinarily lame and embarrassing excuses ahead of this game.
Everyone knows our pathetic record on West Coast...UCLA 2 years ago,USC last year, arizona, rose bowl..ect100%. No need to manufacture extraordinarily lame and embarrassing excuses ahead of this game.
Laughable. The performance of highly conditioned peak testosterone college athletes will not be materially affected by a 4 hour flight the day before.I call it just about the most challenging set up you could create for a Midwest FB team.
You know what Ben McCollom said last season when faced with various daunting tasks: "I love it. Sure, it's hard. I wish they'd make it even harder."Honestly, out of the three, Washington seemed the most winnable. But considering the stretch of games in a 14 day period, then coming off a game against OSU to play in 6 days at night on a Friday on the west coast, it just spells disaster.
I love that mentality from Ben, but I don't think Kirk shares that sentiment. Basketball is also a lot different than football, which is why there are so few upsets in football compared to basketball. Certainly I think Kirk teaches toughness and no excuses. But this is a rough go for a young team with so many question marks on both sides of the ball. I definitely would prefer playing teams like Ohio State and Michigan though, as opposed to nobodies like Purdue, Northwestern, and Nebraska. You know what Ben McCollom said last season when faced with various daunting tasks: "I love it. Sure, it's hard. I wish they'd make it even harder."
And that's exactly the mentality KF and the Hawkeyes must have if they are to have any chance @ Washington. "Suck it up, boys. They wanna stick it to us. They wanna make it tough. Great, cuz that's what we love. Make it hard as hell. Winning will be that much sweeter." I mean, what's the alternative? Whine like the jack*ss UCLA basketball coach?
I know everyone was tracking the record of teams that were traveling two time zones 2-3 years ago and it wasn’t good for the travelers.Everyone knows our pathetic record on West Coast...UCLA 2 years ago,USC last year, arizona, rose bowl..ect
So, what is it? Call it an excuse but travel is a common thread
Now playing on short rest from OSU and mich games added to travel? At nite, when our players body clocks will say it's 10 pm?
I call it just about the most challenging set up you could create for a Midwest FB team.
I don't consider these embarrassing excuses ,just factual reasons for poor performance.
Are mich and OSU playing 2 Friday games?
Just checking
It's kind of hilarious how the Big Ten is actively trying to hand Iowa losses after we got dangerously close to the playoff last year.
Who exactly is in charge of this schedule making? I don't want offices. I need tangible names.........
No it didnt but that is because Hayden had the players wearing tennis shoes because the artificial turf was so bad he later said it would be 7 knee injuries to play in spikes. That didn't work out very well.
