Never was? Interesting - and you are a Met's fan? .275 ave .345 OBP consistent 30 SB and just played baseball hard and fundamental. Obvious personal issues but this is the type of player that usually does great as a manager. I would take him any day at 2B as a player.
My comment was made solely from the context of coach/manager. Sorry I did not make that clear.

I know he has the persona that fans love to see in a manager. Yes, it can work in the minors. With the big boys, not so much. Anyway, his time has passed. He had one shot and he blew it.

In my intended context, I stand by my statement.

So- back to this Met's disaster...
Bichette is the one guy who I think will catch on fire over the warmer weather- he will end up around .290 with maybe 20 HR and 85 RBI. But he will get clutch hits. But, that is not worth $42 million
Robert Jr - started hot, got cold, got injured. Defense is not gold glove. But, we gave up nothing for him
Polanco - Paid a sh - load of money , wasn't hitting and does not have a position and injured - complete disaster
Semien- paying him more than Nimmo per year and he just sucks. Disaster
Peralta- Solid signing but not an Ace.
Williams and Weaver have been very bad

I guess it may be a good thing most of these guys will not be here in 2027 so Stearns can have another year to continue his magic.

Didn't do anything with Peterson or Senga while they had even a little trade value.

Still stuck paying Manaea and Montas

Paying a big chunk of McNeil's salary to hit .300 somewhere else
Paying a good chunk of cash for Nimmo to be a star in Texas
Didn't want Alonso because he couldn't field. And we didn't get a 1B to replace him- he has made some spectacular plays in Balt and his bat is starting to pick up
Diaz- who knows with his injury but over the next few years- he will be worth the money to LA
And then- when trying to find a backup OF/Leader type/bat - he doesn't give Marte a look. Everyone on the team last year said Marte was the true captain of the team. And he is playing well in this type of role in KC

Mendoza sucks and I bet the right offer could be made to Cora...or, do what is right and bring in Beltran

The minor leagues- Stearns strong point- He is lucky McLean was already here. But we have no idea how any of the other pitchers are going to do at the major league level.
Benge is a great fielder and finally starting to hit. But what else do we really have left now- Ewing and Pena?

But the cockiness of the owner and President of the Met's saw their 3 million attendance and decided not to offer later season game single tickets to be sold as they expected their brilliance to be so successful- they could go to dynamic pricing and gouge their fans into the summer and fall- now, they are playing to empty seats.

We are no longer 10% into this season- we are pushing 1/4 of the way done.

And there is no clear path to rebuilding this. As I have said before- Stearns is Ash part 2.
💯

I prefer that the players provide the entertainment, not a has-been (or should I say never-was) like Backman.

Yeah, his act would play really well with the likes of Soto, Lindor, and Manaea.
Don’t get your starched shirt wrinkled on your way into the conversation. This is kidding around, or at least it was before you snooted your way into the room. And who knows what you’re on about with your last sentence, so I’ll keep my eye roll in my pocket for now.

As for Lindor: Frankly, my Lindor, I don't give a damn. Getting a little tired of his lack of production and his showing up courtside for the Knicks game in Philly while on the IL.

Big game for Semien. And big up to Benge for another multi-hit game which took him over the Mendoza line. No not Carlos.

Jack Wenninger last night for Syracuse - 6 innings, 88 pitches, 0 runs, 2 hits, 3 walks, 5 strikeouts. He may have moved ahead of Tong in the pecking order.

Maybe Manaea will need surgery for... something?

Certainly has albeit with a smaller upside. Really good pitchability and solid stuff. Last I checked his velo was actually down a little from last year but that hasn't stopped from pitching great.

Maybe I'll do a minors update tomorrow even though like the major league team there hasn't been too many bright spots to start the year. Basically Wenninger, Ewing, Guzman, and Pena in St Lucie. Bing and Brooklyn guys need to get it going.

Good win last night and nice to see lots of hits. Another series win and the march to .500 begins. Plenty of time left to get back in this thing. I wish the weather would turn already. I'm sick of watching these guys in their fall/winter gear.

3 wins in a row! Where is the joy?
got that feeling after 4 wins in a row before we followed it up with...............................................................................It is good to see Benge starting to get comfortable. Would love to see him become a real star in the next few years so we can get rid of him before he hits 30...hehehehe

Positive signs with some of the more maligned acquisitions. Hitters park. Let's hope it is a start. Maybe Keith in the booth is what the team needed!!!
The Gelb hotdog thing was pretty funny last night even though it looked disgusting. Wonder how many they sell a game at $45 each?

I am interested in Lambert and Ross as alternatives to Kimbrel and Manaea, although pulling off the latter will be very difficult.

Still not ready. Walk way too many batters more so Lambert. Hoping we can get a look at them before the trade deadline though.

Zak, what do you think of Anderson Severino? I know nothing of him except that he is a 31 year old minor league journeyman, and Luis' brother. But he does have an ERA of 0.00.

Correction, Anderson and Luis Severino are cousins, not brothers.

I don't know if this guy has knowledge of a June 1 decision date, or whether he just pulled it out of his butt. But it is consistent with the Stearns dictum that you need two months to figure out what you've got.

I find it incredibly hard to believe that Stearns is going to move Peralta after only being a Met for 2 months. Nevermind the cost to acquire but they also will not wave the white flag that early with Lindor and Polanco probably back around that time.

Seems like a bogus report. It might be fun to see some people's heads probably blow up though.

He was a decent prospect for the Yanks then White Sox. Suspended for PEDs early on but always had a big fastball with a few workable breakers. Went to Mexican league last couple of years and did fine. Mets obviously thought he was worth a gamble with his stuff.

For this year I tried finding out if he's still hitting high 90s occasional triple digits but haven't seen anything. I do know he hasn't been lucky per se because all the metrics you'd want to see him do well in are looking good. He's probably next man up in the pen before or after Minter. He's not on 40 so they could be waiting to release Kimbrel or push Manaea to the 60 day or something.

Entire team should be on trade market with exception of MCLean / Benge / Scott.

It's not farfetched though, given the Cubs' pitching injuries. But it's still too early. I think anything that happens involving Peralta happens closer to the trade deadline.

He said they have not DIRECTLY talked, whatever that means. I strongly suspect that conversations have occured, in the context of Stearns saying "IF we decide to make Peralta available, what would you be willing to offer?"

Which is another way of saying "When I'm through, you'll still be here." ;)
and if that is true- then we are in for the darkest era in Met's baseball. Alonso is 100% correct- 15 years from now- he will be on the ballot and will be debated for the HOF...15 years from now- with Stearns prior and current history, if he is still here- we will be looking at half a century without a title. And if the Met's move on from Stearns- I don't think he finds a title anywhere else either.

Great pitching last night. Some nice glove work also. Vientos and Benge have been really coming on. Need Bichette to start to deliver a bit more. We need him and Soto to kind of carry the offense a little more until Lindor and Polanco are back.

McLean, Weaver, Raley, Williams, Myers good stuff.
