Eight appearances, 8.1IP, 8K, 7BB, 1HBP for Keup - looks like a staff day for Winthrop as they have a big series with High Point this weekend and Longwood next week that will decide the Big South regular season....

Hopefully the rain holds off. It’s already raining in northwest NC

Is there any truth to cancelling to preserve RPI? I just don’t see Forbes doing that.
The weather gives you an excuse to cancel, but with Winthrop at 112 in the RPI it makes sense not to play this game as it wouldn’t do anything but hurt our RPI. It’s too late in the year to take an RPI hit when it can be avoided..

Playing a team ranked 112 in the RPI doesn't hurt you unless you lose, and if we lose to a team like that, we don't need to be talking about playing in Omaha. Winthrop has a huge series vs High Point this weekend, so we weren't going to see any of their top pitchers. I HOPE this decision was made to keep Winthrop from making the almost 3 hour bus trip from Rock Hill, only to be rained out, and not because we were afraid a loss would hurt our RPI.

This one seems legitimately weather related since it’s raining now in Raleigh. The Queens game that was canceled last week was definitely RPI related though.

Makes sense but we would have played it, weather permitting, so maybe it’s good it rained it out.
I watched Clemson take down Coastal in Conway last evening. Clemson is looking better very recently but has a ton of losses, are they out unless they win out & win the ACCT?

I don't know. Looks pretty good to me. The heavy stuff isn't supposed to come down until later.

Did you just miss the first two words of my post on purpose? Lol

Either way, I’m sure it was canceled because of the weather more than the RPI. I don’t think anyone is “scared” we’d lose the game. Cmon.

Oh, I read every word of your post. My point is if the game was actually canceled due to threatening weather, why even mention the possibility of a RPI hit if we play the game?

No reason to cancel this game. It didn't rain enough to mess the field up, the weather is fine now and will be through at least time to have got the game in fully. A loss hurts more than a cancellation I guess but this is a long time with only 1 game played.

Do y’all want to play this game, win, drop in RPI, therefore dropping as a national seed, or cancel it and keep our RPI and national seed? Playing this game only hurts us.
We wouldn't have dropped with a win over the team ranked 112. This isn't the same as playing a team ranked 200+.

Here are some actual facts. Yesterday, UCLA beat #264 and stayed at 1 in the RPI. FSU beat 131 and remained unchanged. Miss State run-ruled 134 and moved up 1. USC beat 104 by 9 and moved up 1. Florida beat 143 and was unchanged. Oregon State beat 99 and moved up 1.

OTOH, it's not surprising that both Kansas and Coastal dropped after losing home games. In addition, Texas A&M beat 302 and dropped 1. I would have expected a similar drop by us if Winthrop was ranked 302, but they are almost 200 spots higher.

I was 60 miles into the 110 mile trip to the Hill when a random check of social media let me know the game was canceled 45 minutes earlier. Thankfully I wasn’t deeper into the journey before turning around.

The overreaction to canceling midweek games is always funny to me. Both teams would prefer to make a decision before the other school makes the trip so you’re not going to have all the information. And just what we need is Owen Hull slipping on wet grass and tweaking his groin in a Wednesday game against Winthrop.

Nice fear-mongering with the injury reference. Those can happen in any game, under all field conditions. Just in the past 2 weeks, we were fortunate that French did not suffer a concussion on his diving catch in foul territory, or Nicholson did not suffer a serious injury after being drilled in the knee with a 90 mph fastball. The Yankees 1B has missed 3 consecutive games after misplaying a pickoff attempt and injuring his wrist.

As for any overreaction, IMO that was the decisions to cancel two games that could have been played start to finish with no weather delays. I can't speak for anyone else, but my alleged overreaction is because I really enjoy attending UNC baseball games. I wonder if the skyrocketing cost of gas factored into those decisions?

This isn't the first time we have had games cancelled due to weather concerns, only to have that weather either completely disappear, or arrive much later than expected. Maybe we need to make sure we schedule OOC games this time of year against teams that don't have 2+ hour bus trips to get to Chapel Hill, which allows for the go / no go decision to be made later in the day.

I don't think we are cancelling due to the weather. I think the potential of weather gives us an "out". If we are sitting around .500 overall and under .500 in acc play, we 100% play both of these games. That's just my opinion.

I don't think yesterday was canceled for RPI reasons. Coach Forbes doesn't want to play 1 game in 10 days leading into the final two weeks of the season. Queens is a different story.
