Not a great idea to do this, but Honestly, if I truly believed 98% of the fanbase loved everything I did and loved the direction we were going, I may do the same thing. I hate seeing this but hopefully he can overlook the negativity.

Hopefully you can afford therapy and will seek it because that is an irrational response. Seriously. A good professional will be able to help you realize that and the real cause for your inability to respond in emotionally healthy ways. Your family and relationships will be thankful if you fix this problem.
I don’t want him to take questions in an April press conference to address irrational fans. Would I love to be behind the curtain and learn what influences decisions, how much Nike and donors and other forces have an influence on the perception of what is going on? Sure. But, that isn’t happening.

If he said he truly believed he had a shot at Stokes and could explain how he thought TS would thrive in his system, would that change anything? No. Is any fan going to be satisfied? Not many.

I thought the personal touch and extra work was worth it. While overseas, I strengthened other contacts that should help in the future.” Fans satisfied? No. Fans complaining about that trip are fans who want to complain about anything. Get a life.
What would he say that alleviates the irrationality of fans? Nothing.
Pope seems like a great person. I loved him as a player. I think his transfer to UK was the tipping point for Pitino to win that championship. Baby fans say they love championships but don’t respect what it takes to win them. Without Pope, we don’t get that championship. Pope’s first year as a coach was one of the best I have had as a fan in over five years. I think he did some amazing things that year with a team that was easy to love. It was a fun ride, even through some of the frustrations of injury and a new team learning each other. This past year was supremely frustrating. But, I do wonder what it would have been like had Lewis not bolted at the last minute (Travis Perry running was less important of an impact IMO) and Lowe been healthy. I think the team would have been very different. Better? I don’t know, but probably.
Anyone who hates Mark Pope is an emotional idiot or really damaged. He is a good man who loves UK and who works very hard at his job. He truly appears to be giving his all. That may not be enough and if it is not, he will not be coach.
There are lost people were who troll. But, there are also seriously sad fans who express irrational anger. And, there is an overwhelming narcissistic social media immaturity that thinks a variation of the same joke over and over is funny or gives them some false sense of accomplishment.
X and social media hysteria, anger, impersonal responses, and starvation for attention have influenced this board that was a bad board with dumb behavior before.
Maybe on3 likes the chaos because people may actually pay for a moderated controlled environment. Is the pay area better or also filled with redundant emotional responses and baiting?

I give credit to Pope for doing this. I agree, it may not be the greatest idea, but he has courage, is doing his best and he craves for the fan base to support him.

No, sorry -- I'm not meaning you specifically. I'm saying if people are going to bring up religion, I'll respond. Just like if someone brought up one of my family members, I would respond. I haven't kept up with this whole thread and don't want to. I only replied to your post that people believe all religion is a myth. So, I replied that I believe that is expected to happen according to my faith. And it went from there. If you don't want to have topics like that, fine, don't bring them up. I don't get people blaming KSR for Pope posting to Twitter. There were threads here and noise elsewhere before KSR even recommend it last week. Rick Barnes apparently went on tour across Tennessee taking to the fans post season.
If I had to guess, People don't agree with Matt politically and just blame KSR for literally everything.
It truly does feel like the KSR team just reads these boards, takes the topics that generate the most comments, and then create blog post for out of it. They do not do anything original.

Perhaps the dumbest self inflicted move by a UK coach since I have been watching UK basketball. Yea, he is weird, or whoever the heck is advising him is weird. So much more negative than positive to come out at THIS TIME. Really should have read the room better.

its a damned if you do, damned if you don't with Pope on communicating with the fans. You know he doesn't want to do it but there is so much pressure right now on the state of the program he has been talked into it.
the easiest thing to do is to own it.
I'd say , look I know there is some angst among the fans with us not landing some of the players we went after, but I can't tell you everything that goes on behinds the scenes. What I can tell you is the players we have are players that want to be here and will give it their all when they play. I can't say that about some of the people we have recruited. Last year we learned that personalities and player expectations can create chemistry issues on the court. We're not going to repeate that this year and that has played a siginificant role in our recruiting. Its also true that some players see UK as a way to leverage more NIL money from the school they intend to go to - and unfortunately some of them have led us to believe they were interested, when in reality they were only interested in maximizing the amount of money they could get from some other school.
He'll need to address the GM, and he'll have to own that as well. I'd offer up something similar to I know in some cases a dedicated GM would have made things easier on us but I need to find the right person that is going to be able to help us evaluate the right people before we even try to recruit them, and we will find that person soon
He should not admit failure at any level, the fans will eat him alive if he does that and I'd lean into if the kid isn't here, there is a reason for it in regards to whether we believed they would help the team.

I’m not sure….i think I have seen about 738 different comments on RR about the silence from Pope since the end of the season and probably 3x that amount from people on social media.
Could it be the loudmouth “fans” and the constant BS coaches and players have to read/deal with?
