He loves IU and a National Championship is worth a few million right now but at some point he and the other billionaires will want a financial return on investment.

Let's hope so, or none of the rest of us will ever stand a chance. Problem is there may always be another one waiting in the wings. And without some kind of guardrails (salary cap, time constraints, etc), that's always a risk. There could always be another Indiana booster or Texas Tech booster with essentially unlimited funds who doesn't care about ROI right around the corner.

No doubt about it. And those pro teams expect to see an ROI. Even Oregon is a completely different animal to what we have in college now. Sure, Phil Knight puts a bunch into that school. But he does expect an ROI, at least to some extent, as it's mostly done through Nike. Much closer to a pro team type format. What we're seeing now with places like Indiana and Texas Tech are more like a rich dude just buying a yacht. Only ROI they want is the enjoyment of it. It's like they're buying an expensive fantasy football team. Only, it's relatively cheap for them.

Eventually ROI will come into play, let’s just say next season Indiana has a large number of injuries and they win only 8 games miss the playoffs. Will Cuban insist cig get fired? Or same thing with Oregon say they tank will knight insist lanning is let go? Remember all these billionaires have giant egos. My guess in 5 years or less college football will be a mess worse than today
