Below are the Team Transfer Class Rankings from EvanMiya.com and the individual ratings of all incoming Big East Transfers. This only shows college transfers, no international players or incoming freshmen so St.John's is not ranked high. Really puts in perspective how poorly we are doing.
  • 8 Big East Teams have a Top 100 transfer, our best is #220
  • 6 teams have multiple Top 100 transfers, our 2nd transfer is #486
  • 5 BE teams are in the Top 11 Classes in the country, we are last in BE at #85 and #360 in Overall Transfer Activity.
Last year, Seton Hall was felt to be in a similar budget situation with Xavier, DePaul and Butler at the bottom of the conference.

Now, Xavier has the #7 class in the Country,
DePaul is 38th with 2 top 100 players,
Butler and Georgetown are ranked only slightly better than us.

If there are no expectations, Sha can only exceed them.

Avery Brown is ranked #1630. The guy that has time to rank all of these players is a bigger loser than the player ranked #1631.

There was a time in the not too distant past when I would’ve recognized most of these names. Now I know about 10. College bball … woof

What a silly comment, all of this is done with computers and algorithms. It’s all objective but his top teams and top players are always pretty accurate. SMH.

Just a sign of the times.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall during discussions by athletic department and university leaders to listen either to a [very] short-range plan or some off-ramp for us to down size. (I assume-?- at some levels those talk are occurring.) Do we have a three-to-five year plan hoping that some sanity or legislation evens things out...somewhat? Do we have an idea about down sizing? It seems that the current madness cannot continue and is unsustainable for us.

How about just spend the money you have. If SHU has 8 million what is Sha doing with it.”?

Miya’s rankings are pretty flawed. Del is way better than that.

That said, we will likely have the worst roster in the conference on paper again. Especially if we’ve already dropped more than half the budget. The silver lining is that Shaheen seems to want it this way, and it worked to some degree last year.

Just looking at the number of teams who showed an interest in Del, I would agree with you that he is better (hopefully) than #691, but he likely gets dinged in the analytics because of the competition against which he played in the Big South last year, which is low-major.

I take issue with some of his rankings as well.

Last year's transfer class seems like it was rated higher than this year's transfer class yet it feels like this year's transfer class is better. Maybe it's Seton Hall blinders?
I recall Budd coming in with a decent amount of hype and accolades. Yet nobody in this class seems to have any. Our highest commit is a guy who rode the bench last year.

I think we have some capable pieces and we know Sha is capable of achieving more with less but … we have what, 3 mill left tops and still need around 4-5 more players at the most expensive positions. Total debicle.

Just looking at who the teams who finished below us brought in and they are all ahead of us in centers (many 7 footers) and power forwards. We will once again be the smallest sized team in the BE and the nation unless things change soon. Not good.

I’ve said it once and I’ve say it’ll again: he lucked into Hines last year. Without a similar ace up our sleeve things look much worse.

"... lucked into Hines..." But how much different would our record have been without him. For whatever reason, he was not a major contributor. (A better question might be what would our record have been if he had played 30-32 minutes a game?)

Florida just brought in a 6’9 Slovenian pro. We need to hit the Euro market. Probably only place left with serviceable bigs
From what I’ve read, it takes a specialized skillset to work the Euro market. You have to know people and how things work. I doubt we are equipped to do well there.

That’s sad if true and sounds like a weak cop-out. It’s a huge segment of the market now. How hard can it be?

From what I’ve read, it’s just a different animal with the agents and contracts over there. Difficult to navigate.

It would probably behoove us to have someone with that kind of expertise, but I don’t think we do, see e.g. Arda ozgodan.

We should have tons of connections from the Canarias days. Get Pat Auda on the phone
