I’m inclined to believe that it’s not. I can only find a single source for the story, a website/social media page called Crossville News First. They don’t appear to be a satire page themselves, which makes this more complicated, but I think they got duped on this one.
They claim to be citing WMC in Memphis, but no such report can be found firsthand on WMC’s news page. I also found an Instagram page of “Florida Man” memes sharing this exact story as happening in Gainesville with a more obviously AI generated mugshot of a completely different looking man. My best guess is that someone took that satirical story and slapped an unrelated mugshot on it to add to the ruse.
Not that there’s anything inherently wrong with getting a chuckle out of a made up story. That far predates AI. I’m fairly confident this is fiction though.
I'm basing this strictly off of the gentleman in this photo...but I can't imagine she'd pull in the bag of frozen fish...much less the boat.
