6-3 G-F Hassel is the #13 ranked overall recruit, the #2 overall player listed at CG, though I am a little dubious of a 6-3 "combo gurad." from what I have seen, she is a legit point-forward with ball handling skills, but I will be very surprised if she lines up at the 1 or 2 on offense and defense.

On3/Rivals has updated their recruiting board format.

3397 sounds like my take years ago on Earvin "Magic" Johnson Lol. However you are probably correct
in your assessment.

LOL, great point.

Assuming that 6'3" is accurate, she is the same height as Maria Gakdeng. I will have to see it before I believe it.

Nah, I disagree. You have women playing the guard position at 6 feet 2 inches tall now. Riley Nelson at Duke was killing us at the guard position and she is 6'2" this past year on both ends of the floor. Saniya Rivers played that CG position at 6'1" at NC State. Jada Bates who played guard at Arkansas was 6'3". With that being said, I do not agree with 3397char assessment on Hassell. They have her listed as a CG and we have to believe that this young women can play that position at her height. The talent level right now is getting better and better on the high school level for women's basketball. The are more women dunking the basketball in high school now.

I like bigger guards. One thing for sure you can’t have 3-4 guards 5’10 or shorter.

On3 and other services tend to a) list positions aspirationally at what they would project to at the WNBA level and b) acquiesce to what players call themselves.

as an a example, for the 2026 class here is the breakdown of the top 100 by position:

center: 4
pf: 22
SF: 7
SG: 29
CG: 19
PG:19

that is 67 women for the 1 & 2, but only 33 for the 3, 4 & 5.

so either almost every team in the P4 is going to play small, mostly without a 5 and a 3, or in reality quite a few of those PF will play C, those listed at SF will play PF, and the SG/CG are actually SFs etc…

Rivers was the starting 4 at NCSU As a senior, sometimes the 3. Never a combo guard. She matched up with Ustby when we played them. She was also 2” shorter than Hassell which is a big difference in WBB. 5-8 brooks was the PG, 6-0 Hayes the WF, 5-10 James the SG.

5-9 Mair was the PG for Dook, 6-0 Jackson SG, 6-2 Nelson played the WF position. There were rotations where Nelson slid down to the 2, but that was only because Dook was undermanned once they lost Skinner to injury.

so you are listing women who played forward, but had ball handling skills, that is the point forward designation I spoke of. Hassell may have that skill; pretty awesome if she does. But that does not mean that she is a D1 starting guard, splitting time at the 1 and 2 as the CG designation implies.

Well, we shall see. Nelson played the 2 spot against us last year. Go and watch the film. If you look at the W right now, they have players at 6'2 and 6'3 playing the guard spots. JuJu played the CG spot at USC her freshmen year. I think you are forgetting that the women's game is a mirror image of the men's game with the versatility of the players that are coming up from the middle school and high school ranks. With this fact alone, moving forward, we are going to see a ton of players coming from high school that will be that tall and player the CG or even the PG in the near future.

I think WBB is definitely trending to bigger players at every position.

Next season for us: JMO.

PG Harpring 5'10 R Kelly 5'7
2G Brooks 6'1 C.Clardy 5'9 J.Zubich 6'0
3F Burrows 6'2 L. Hull 6'1
4F Akot 6'1 T. Queroz N.Bofia 6'4 (4 or 5)
5C Toomey 6'5 B. Thomas 6'51/2

JMO but we have the potential to have a bigger and stronger team next season.

*Debbie Antonelli said on calling a game that C Toomey was now a legit 6'5

I worry about missing those 40 or so made 3's that L Grant made for us last season.

LHull, RKelly and maybe even J Zubich might see lots of time in the Grant corner if needed.

I am looking forward to seeing how Burrows, Clardy and Kate H are able to shoot the 3pt shoot.

IMO Kate Harpting is going to be great at scoring and dishing in the paint creating lots of offense

Wow, that is tough. It reminds me of Caleb Wilson's injury and when he could not play.
