"Jeff Lebby at Mississippi State.

I consulted some people very close to the program today, who shall remain nameless, per their request, because I had to get a feel of where Mississippi State fans were on Jeff Lebby. Now, my best guess is that he would land at a C plus. In my personal opinion, I would go B minus to maybe even B because of where the program was, and then the fact that he pulled them from two and ten in his first year to five and eight last year.

But last year, the five and eight included one possession losses to Texas, to Tennessee and to Florida. So, it was one of those teams that was probably a lot better than the record indicated they were. Now, that's the so far.

So, I think maybe the fan base would look and say, we don't care, we lost the games. I don't ever look at it that way, especially with Mississippi State. If it was Georgia, I would look at it that way.

You lost close to Texas, okay, you're Georgia. That's a loss. Tennessee, you're Georgia.

That's a loss. I don't look at Mississippi State the same way. So, I put them in a B minus, maybe even a B.

But I understand if the fan base would go C plus. Now, they got a lot to prove this year because there's a ton of churn on the roster there, but it could all be covered up with either development, evaluation, or Camario Taylor going off at quarterback, or ideally, all of the three, in which case Mississippi State's like the surprise of the league. So C plus, and I will grant you, I expect pushback on this, because they're going to be, there's a Mississippi State fan out there that would put an A minus on him right now.

But I promise you, sir or ma'am in Tupelo, or Natchez or Hattiesburg, what have you, Philadelphia, Yazoo City, I just name them, I can assure you that as much as you want to give them an A minus, I received correspondence in the C minus range. So, there would be a wide range and I had to average it out.

So that's where we are on Jeff Lebby right now."

Jeff Lebby discussion starts around the 43:00 mark.

-He doesn't mention that it was Lebby that lost that FL game w/ his boneheaded calls at the end.
-He doesn't mention that we led TX 31-14 after 3 quarters and totally blew it in the 4th Q and OT.
-He mentions one possession losses to TX, TN, and FL, but, he doesn't mention that we only beat 2-10 AR by 3 (one possession) in the last minute of the game on a play where 3 AR defenders missed tackles terribly, a team that fired their coach before the end of Sept.

Glass half full or half empty?

A lot of words to say, “This year will tell the tale.” If we are better and get to 6-7 wins, Lebby will have earned some slack. If we don’t, then he’s on the chopping block.

I like Pate but Im not sure why an Athletic Department employees opinion on fans opinions matters at all. Isn’t that that point of his show- to get that feeling himself from fans?

Since 2000, there have been a total of 73 non-interim head SEC football coaches.

One coach, in the history of the entire conference over the past 25 years, has ever been retained for a 3rd year after going 1-15 or worse in conference play in his first two seasons. This was Bobby Johnson at Vanderbilt, retained after starting off 1-15 in 2002/2003.

Read that and tell me what you’d give as a grade.

He said people who are close to the program, not in the program. I read that as BFW or a beat writer.

You forgot to mention that Bobby Petrino pissed the refs off so bad, I thought the refs were mistaking us for Bama. It was definitely called one sided after halftime.

Yeah guilty** EABOD Pat..
I don’t give him an A or A- I think C is about right. Most on this here free message board who don’t attend games or give a dime to BC SEF or BI don’t understand the situation he walked into. The talent level and the coaching level is finally in a competitive place. Yet we will have the usual posters who are against virtually everything state does but calls themselves state fans. Hell 85 was post AI **** today

Dude. It was just a joke. I actually started to put that in the post but figured it was obvious. We disagree, but that’s ok.

"C" is generous when he hasn't won a conference game at home. I'm not giving up on him yet but he is much closer to an F than an A.
I gave up on him after the Florida game. And I dont even mind him calling that pass play at the end. That game shouldn't have been close, but Lebby has no idea how to call a game.

I talk about MSU football with people in real life pretty often, and I don't know a single person who would give him a C+. Almost all D- and F, not a single person who expects him to be back in 2027.

The play call was correct, the execution was terrible. It was a designed run play to booth but Shapen had the option to throw it as well. Johnson ran a lazy route probably thinking we were running it, but was open anyway. What Shapen didn’t see…the DL dropped into coverage and well it’s history. Shapen should have stuck to the run, but the refs also blew the FG call. That kick was good but because of the rules it was not reviewable

This is probably accurate from those fans who don’t understand the situation that this staff inherited. But yes he has to win 7 this season to be retained.

5 wins is a C ...... IMO. and losses never count as wins, no matter the team. If he wins 7 games this year (not counting moral victory BS) then we can discuss B grades.

Humpy Scale

10-12 wins = A tier
7-9 wins = B tier
4-6 wins = C tier
1-3 wins = D tier
0 wins = F tier

No need to get a little dig in when you essentially agree with everyone else.

Very unlikely that he gets us to 7-5 this year (he would have to sweep all of the "swing games"), but if he does somehow, most everyone will be fine keeping him.

I think we'll only be favored twice (maybe 3 if Vandy takes a big step back), and all 10 of those fanbases we'll be underdogs against have already marked us down as a win.

We should have a good idea by the end of September if Lebby has turned a corner or not, although even if he starts out 4-0 somehow, it's still going to be tough to get to 7.

Auburn is winnable vandy for sure( they lost so much) Mizz at home OU really like our chances against them. You’re underestimating our talent level.
