When will the sellout streak die, and when will Rhule disappear?

I have my money on the streak dying after our inevitable loss to Indiana (I wouldn't put it past us to lose to Michigan State either).

As for Rhule, I have him gone after the Washington game (which we'll probably lose in).

Will Dannen get tossed too? Hard to say.

I don’t foresee that happening. I can only see that happening if NU loses all the non-conference games to start the year. So, practically zero chance.

Even with a five and seven record I would assume he is retained. However, I see the potential for four blowout losses to Indiana, Oregon, OSU, and Iowa. That could be the nail in the coffin.

The stadium is rarely full, the sell-out streak has more to do with rich people buying up tickets and I wonder if the AD could just make a "price cut" at the last moment. There isn't another team in the world with the incentive to put tickets on sale at the last moment but I could imagine Nebraska doing it just to maintain this last connection to competency.

Hard to say what will happen to the “streak” this year. If we have a better than expected season the streak will survive. But if we lay a turd and the season goes south, then my gut says the streak will end.
And then so will Rhule’s tenure

Last connection to competency. No one is saying we are competent. The sell out streak is the last tangible result of former Nebraska greatness

Former Nebraska greatness is why our football program is effectively dead. Chasing ghosts, blah blah blah. This point has been hashed way too many times yet most people ignore it. We are by all accounts college football's Dallas Cowboys.

The past dies. What worked before in recruiting in-state obviously doesnt work as well anymore. We went through offensive-styles like copy paper in recent years. The problem is right in front of our f*cking noses and we don't care. Nebraska is toxic, but we don't care, because we're the nicest people with the most welcoming fanbase, right? The whole "Nebraska Nice" label should be taken to the shed and shot.

The sellout should've died in Frost's final year. Thats just my own opinion, but at this point we need to pull the roots out entirely. All the regents need to go. Rhule and Dannen need to go. If Nebraska TRULY wants to regain relevance and not become the Big 10's welcome mat forever, we need competence.

Rant over.

I thought it died when Callahan was coach. No damn way has the stadium been sold out with butts in seats considering Callahan, Riley, Frost and Podcast Rhule.

I went to a Oklahoma state game in the mid 1970’s the stadium wasn’t full but they go by tickets sold even if fans don’t show up it’s still a sell out

Everyone knows the streak ended years ago. It’s still alive as a talking point because there isn’t much more to say regarding the football program. We are notorious for living in the past. This is all there is as cheesy as it is.

Would that make you happy if the sell-out streak ends? There are many on this board who write about why Nebraska can't compete against a lot of other schools for a variety of reasons, but I always thought one of the biggest advantages of being a Husker is because we care and support our teams. When I moved to Seattle and started going to Husky football games it was hard not to notice their fans deserting the stadium in the 3rd quarter if they were behind. I said to my Husky friends that would never happen in Nebraska. One of them replied to me, "That's because we have more things to do here". Now. lots of my Nebraska friends no longer watch their football games. I hope I never become as arrogant and jaded as West Coast fans. I watch as much Husker sports as I can. I go to as many games as I can. Joining the BIG has been great for me because I can see them plays sports 2.5 hours away in Seattle. I joyously rang the bell out in our backyard yesterday when the women secured the Big Ten Regular Season Championship in softball. Look at our arenas and stadiums. They are always full. I cannot stand Matt the Hat. I look forward to the day he leaves Lincoln for good, but I have been a fan of the Huskers since I moved to Nebraska in June of 1968. I am still going to be yelling "Go Big Red!!!" long after Matt the Hat is gone.

I have written the following many times already, I do not believe Rhule will be fired until late November/early December 2027. I do not believe at the end of this season Dannen, the Chancellor and/or President of the University, the BOR or the governor has the guts to admit they overreacted to Franklin getting fired at Penn State resulting in them stupidly signing Matthew Kenneth Rhule to an undeserved and unwarranted contract extension.

The sellout streak ends this year because many fans are fed up with the quality of play and leadership. Also the poor amenities and availability to watch free at home or bar.

Because our other teams in other sports are doing well, Dannen probably stays employed. The buyout is way too much with NIL and stadium rebuild costs.

Matt gets fired at end of the 28 season. After his good recruiting class of 27 fails to make much of an impact. So buckle up for 3 more seasons of the level of play we have become accustomed to seeing and accepting.

It is what it is. I had reasonable hopes he could make us respectable- hasn’t happened.

Yep, and Cowboy fans will tell you that they're never going to win again as long as all the fans continue to support the team. Every year, they're the #1 sports franchise in the world on the Forbes list, so the Jones family has zero incentive to improve the product on the field. Their merch sales, attendance, TV viewership, etc never waiver. So, the team continues to suck.

That’s what still happens today. I have season tickets and split them with family members and at times for certain games if other friends don’t want them or we can’t sell all our tickets so we have to eat them.

Eh, it's not completely cheesy. It has some slight redeeming value. Represents fan support to prospective players, which we have ton of. Often to a fault. Although, with NIL, I doubt fan support means squat to 17-20 year old kids these days.

Nebraska nice will never end. It is who we are ( even the democrats ). The sellout streak is a fan record, has nothing to do with the absolute garbage the admins have put in place since Bo was fired. After this year, after the reseating, after what looks to be a very bad year record wise, the calls to make a change will grow louder. The sellout streak, as it has for many years, will continue to rely on corporate ticket sales. That might continue, but not if it means a huge number of tickets must be sold. At some point, NU will quietly ask Ruhle if he would be willing to consider a cash buyout with no claw back, and he might do just that. Dannen is let go.

You serious? Do you even know who Matt Rhule is? He was squeezing every penny out of Carolina heading into his gig with us and will do the same on his way out the door here. He's clearly about one thing and one thing only. Money. If you think otherwise, you're just buying his snake oil.

and our AD wants to spend 600 million?

that doesn't add up, does it?

the stadium project is a scam to line the pockets of the AD, board of regents, and other shady people.

The project will lower the total number of seats from what I understood.

true, but that doesn't matter to me.. it's basically like saying lets dump all this money into something that fans are spending less and less time on. The reality is, it's scam to line their pockets.

What does this mean?
it means i agree with both you and k rod.. matt def tries to squeeze every penny.. but when he is under extreme pressure, I can also see him agreeing to smaller buyout just to exit the program in a certain way. I was positive he was going to take a job last year. If Rhule gets pressed into the corner this year, he will cry uncle imo. I think the team will turn out good though.

If the Big Corporate donors or whomever it is or what organizations discontinue buying out all of the unused seats will it decrease ticket costs?

If so, then I'm all for letting the sellout go on hospice care.

He is not squeezing anything out of Carolina. They had an offset provision in his contract. We took Carolina off the hook for all but 5 million and even that is being contested in arbitration. My post was that if we agreed to no offset, and offered a lower cash buyout, he might bite.

I hate to be this jaded about the program but yes, the "sellout streak" needs to die. I've said it a few times over the years (especially during Frost's tenure) that unless if we undergo drastic changes, our football program will die out and so will the support. This fanbase cares a LOT. The regents and athletics department banks on that fact that we care. So how will they respond after another inevitable failure of a season? They don't seem to care that we've become the laughingstock of the supposed "blue-blood" programs. They don't give a sh*t that legacy recruits don't want to stay in this program, because getting these recruits seems to warm up the hearts of this god-forsaken fanbase.

Dylan has his faults. His family is a basket case. It gets concerning that a day 1 starter would rather ride the bench for a year under a better program than continue to be under the guidance of a podcaster masquerading as a coach with a toxic fanbase to boot.

He leveraged all that Carolina money for a bigger offer from us is what I meant. "I don't have to coach, I'm already making millions not to, I didn't have to take this job" all that talk. That's what I meant. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. I imagine a deal like that would probably be "undisclosed" though. He'd also know that he'll never get a job of this level again if he's fired from here, so I still say he'd hold us to every penny that was owed.

The streak has already ended. Those that haven’t admitted it will have to this season. And that is fine. Just find a real football coach and start a new streak.
