Another fine showing by our student athletes
Hard to watch that game. Flop-fest first of all, and then offenses with so little ball movement….
. Yucky lacrosse. Surprised by the lack of athleticism on UMD. Good goalies though, although on the day, inclusive of our game, the lack of changing the plane on shooting is surprising, making goalies look maybe better than they are frankly.

The selection show will air Sunday, May 3 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPNU. First round of play will begin on Friday, May 8 with the championship just 16 days later on Sunday, May 24 at Northwestern University’s Martin Stadium in Evanston, IL. for the first time ever.
It is a 29-team, single elimination tournament — 15 automatic bids and 14 at-large selections. First and second round matchups will be stationed at the same site, with three teams at the host site of top-3 seeds and four at the four through eight seeds.

Harden wanted that trophy. She worked her butt off in this tournament. Doesn't get the headlines or stats, but makes things happen. It was good to hear Sheehan calling out Gresham's game as well. Both deserve a lot more press than they are getting.
Agreed. And that is one thing that makes this team special. They don't seem to mind who gets the credit as long as they get the job done.
We are #2 in RPI behind NW. Despite having a better record with only 1 loss to their 3 and us being #1 in today's coaches poll and IL poll, NW is on a 10 game win streak including beating us and #3 Maryland twice. So I think NW gets the #1 overall seed.
The last selection committee rankings on 4/16 had us #3 behind Maryland. However since then Maryland has lost twice and our RPI passed theirs. So I think we will get the #2 sed and Maryland is #3.
The committee definitely will not drop Maryland to 4, setting up yet another duel with NW in the semis. And UNC at 4th would be a travesty as well, so I think UNC and MD at the 2 & 3 is pretty much a lock, just a question of who gets which seed.
The 4 & 5 seeds are much harder to figure out: Stony Brook, Johns Hopkins, Cuse, Navy and Florida all have solid arguments.
Getting the 2 seed (rather than 1) might be good bulletin board material for the team. Probably we play Clemson in our first game (assuming they win the Thursday game) because of proximity either way. And there isn't much difference between #7 and #8 among Stony Brook, Johns Hopkins, Cuse, Navy and Florida for a quarterfinal matchup.
I would prefer to avoid MD in the semis, but otherwise I see no benefit over a #1 vs a #2 as you say.
Yeah but NW had to really bad loses which you cannot ignore. Our record is better than theirs. We will have to wait and see when the format and placing of the teams are announced.
Yep. Harden a major part of the heart of this group I suspect. Grit, like her preceding family members. As much Carolina athletics royalty as any family if you’re old like me.
I’d kinda like to see NU vs Stanford’s zone along the way. And they’re kinda western….
Slick move by Stanford to try and avoid a second red card on #5 Olivia Rose who fouled Kate Levy, removing her goggles in the process of applying her stick to Kate's head. We were at the game; so got very little in the way of feedback or explanations from the stadium announcer as to what was going on. Didn't realize that they had tried to sub a different player for "timeout" in the "naughty chair" to keep Olivia eligible to stay in the game. Once we watched the replay at home that all became clear.

Much like Rick Pitino with KY around 1991. This is a common thing in basketball as I remember. But interestingly, Pitino got in hot water with Media about it and blamed it on the players and even suspended one as I remember. Typical Patino, as far as I can tell, as no coach worth his weight didn’t know, and no person with ethics would’ve blamed his players.
At any rate, I do remain a little confused on the matter though, because what I saw on TV could easily imply that the officials did name the wrong person from the beginning.

I question why her coaches allowed Olivia Rose to be positioned to directly contest the FPS after receiving her first yellow card. In my mind, the Stanford staff was asleep at the switch.
The talking heads seem to agree that UNC and Maryland will be seeded #2 and #3 when the bracket is revealed Sunday. I would welcome playing the Terps in the semifinal game. The two teams haven’t met since 2020 when the Heels blistered UM 19-6 in Chapel Hill.

That would be a slight on us. I know we lost to NW and so did Maryland, but our record is better and they did lose to two teams that are not ranked now. They beat us in overtime. I was not like they beat us in regulation. We had them beat and we let them off of the hook. The committee needs to recognize this fact IMO. We shall see how it turns out on Sunday.

2. Actually, if being seeded #2 puts us in Maryland’s bracket, my personal preference would be to be seeded second. That rivalry has produced numerous classic games. Also, if the UNC players perceive a #2 seed as a slight, this might provide some additional motivation.
3. The Heels definitely could still receive the #1 seed; in fact the pollsters put them at #1. Northwestern has a bad loss to Ohio State, but they are on a 10-game winning streak and have three wins against top-3 teams (UNC has zero).
4. The projected brackets that I have seen both have UNC playing Clemson, assuming the Tigers win a first-round game against a lesser opponent. If this comes to pass, it will be the fifth UNC-Clemson game in the past two seasons. The committee is muting interest in the tournament by this redundancy. This is justified by scheduling based on proximity in order to cut expenses. IMO, it would be exciting to play teams like Johns Hopkins, Army, Colorado or Maryland. But unfortunately, this is unlikely to happen.
5. My guess is that if UNC loses in the tournament, it will be to a team they have already played this season. Teams that have not faced Carolina struggle to get comfortable against the speed and aggressive ride that the Heels employ. And then there’s CH.
6. The UNC ride is not generating as many turnovers as it did earlier in the season. The reason for this is that teams have started passing around the ride rather than trying to advance by running the ball through the UNC defense.

Dominating the draw in the Final 4 last season was a really significant factor in winning the 2025 National Championship. [Duke’s draw taker was on the ACC 1st team; in the ACC tourney quarterfinal, UNC won the draw by a shocking 20-7 margin.]

Nah, I am not buying that bs reason. They are just trying their best to find a way to put NH as the overall number 1 seed which is just bias IMO. We are know that they love NW let's be honest. Our record is better than theirs. We have only had one lost and they have 3, two of them are from teams that dropped our of the rankings. BC was ranked in the top 3 at the beginning of the season. Nobody could have predicted the games they lost. We shall see later on what they decide. Also, the game against Maryland the first time was one where the referees refused to make that call near the end of the game which could have turned the tide in that game. We have all seen the replay and that girl from NW intentionally and clearly deliberately hit the Maryland which should have been called and the player from NW should have gotten a green or yellow card. That was so more bs.

Assuming we draw Clemson in tonight’s bracket, the Tigers are a pretty tough draw. Clemson is 14-5, losing close games to top 20 teams: two one-goal losses to Stanford, a one-goal loss to Florida, a two-goal loss to Boston College and a three-goal loss to UNC.
In the ACC semi-finals, they led Stanford 12-10 with 6:41 before giving up the final three goals. Prior to the Stanford loss in the ACC, they had been on an eleven-game winning streak.
There are a lot of draws that I would prefer.

We play the Clemson - Davidson winner following our 1st round bye (we are #2 seed).
Also in our quarter — #7 seed Michigan vs. Mercer and Stanford vs. Penn State
In our half bracket #3 Maryland and #6 seed Navy.

Silly. B1G rated better than ACC obviously, and not much else at play. No eye test late in season whatsoever.
Clemson and Stanford deserve better imo. Stanford did have a couple bad losses (under weird circumstances). I think Clemson got shafted. FL should be in CH after losing to CO IMO. Clemson should run free a bit before a top 3 seed. Makes me curious as to who is on the committee. I’m not buying Stoney Brook until I see the em with my own eyes. I know they’re tough, overly physical, lost only 2, and play hard. Their schedule was quite weak.
only explanation for us getting #2 is the eye test in our defense and keeper play in particular. Not our strength.
