Honestly, it makes sense for that guy to go to LSU.
-Santos is from a different country and Mark Pope's attempt to talk about the UK tradition will mean even less.
-LSU has PLENTY of room to promise minutes playing time and NIL.
-Will Wade is a better coach. He's done more at 43 than Mark Pope has at 53.
-Wade recently hired Rick Stansbury and Johnny Jones as assistants. Stansbury is known to be a really good recruiter and Jones has coached a lot of NBA players. Pope has neither going for him.
Pope may want to reconsider his closing routine during a recruiting visit. You know the one where he puts on his old UK uniform and does his best cheerleader presentation. Obviously, that is not sealing the deal with these new recruits. Oh, its a beautiful thing but, ahh it's just not getting it done.

We need hidden camera footage of what Pope does on these recruiting visits. He must be the most off-putting dude imaginable. Not entirely sure how he managed to coach so long prior to this without developing that reputation. Maybe instead of hiring buddies, he should have hired a stone-cold killer on the recruiting trail to be the closer (or actually pondered keeping Antigua on board two year ago for that same purpose).
On one end of the spectrum you would have say Pat Riley in his prime. A man that would "own" whatever room he was in. Pope would be on the complete opposite end of that spectrum - a goofy, loveable doofus. That is who he is no matter how much some on this board would wish it to be different.

honestly, at this point Pope is acting like its his own money he is spending.

Everyone says UK has plenty of money but has anyone really verified it? Maybe he is severely limited in NIL and no one wants to admit it?

Everyone at Kentucky is in circle the wagons mode from the President on down.

Stansbury was a really good hire. He should have taken Fox's spot after this season. Pope asleep, again.
I think Mark Fox will be here as long as Mark Pope is. Fox gave Pope his first job and seems to be a mentor to him. Also, Mark Fox became a horrible head coach. That said, I don't think he is going to leave to take a head coaching gig.

LSU offering almost twice as much and more than we have ever paid a player. LSU is way overpaying.
If that’s the case then they can have em, but rolling into next season with Potter as the backup playing real minutes doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence

Will Wade going to have 6’7 (more like 6’6) MoD at the 4 and 6’8 Santos at the 5. Have to build a roster somehow I guess, currently MoD is his only player on the roster.

This kind of thing is all a dimwitted troll such as yourself has got since you are unable to articulate anything with logic, fact, or reason.

Yes, I do believe Pope could watch Santos and think he’s better than Potter. He’s also the same moron that watched Trent Noah and tried to start him. In college basketball games. Against other college basketball teams. So yeah, I think it’s fair to assume he thinks Potter has some value too.
I think you got that first sentence backwards vs. the point you tried to make. Constantly insulting and calling our coach derogatory names adds nothing of value to the discussion. Noah has really struggled so far but expecting him to provide high quality shooting was reasonable and just hasn't panned out. I will agree he doesn't help you any shooting the way he has thus far.

That is some serious dimwitted logic. I guess you consider yourself a true master baiter. I have no need for aliases and no need for likes. Only trolls need that stuff to prop up their fragile egos.

I assume Jimmy James is in reference to Hendrix? Is the Jimi size handle one of your aliases?

I’ve been lurking for a minute so I decided to come back. I believe I read a post from you accusing me being some of these trolls and what not? What’s that about? You weren’t even on this board when I posted unless your used a different username. Which one was that?

I used to be Sosa.
Welcome back Sosa

Coaching definitely matters, of course, but I think the primary drivers are Money & Minutes (M&Ms) ... LSU may well be offering more of both.

Mark Pope keeps thinking that being honest and being a man of virtue will endear him to recruits and their families.

It won't.

All that matters are two things: 1. can you pay the players what they think they're worth and 2. will you feature them and play them in a way that puts them on NBA draft radars.

Nothing else matters.

Nothing.

Fox coached Pope when he played @ Washington. Maybe even recruited him to the school. Deep, INCOMPETENT ties. Lucky us. 🙄

I agree ... Money & Minutes are the drivers. That is why so many enter the portal, leaving their schools and coaches behind.

What the **** is with this fanbase? LSU has one player and can offer starting minutes along with a desperation bag. We can't get pissed when Pope overpays for players and then pissed when we're not willing to match a desperate LSU's offer.
You are absolutely right. However, at some point Pope has to identify a recruit that's both attainable and a good fit. Thus far he has struggled to do this with many targets.

Now that the overall pool has dwindled you could say the same advantages will persist. Will this be our continued explanation until LSU, KU, and others have a full roster. Eventually you need to get the job done, no excuses.

He wasn't able to recruit at BYU either. Everyone just blew it off because nobody expected a place like BYU could recruit at an elite level. We now know that is false.

Not sure why those things have to be mutually exclusive. You want him to start lying and being corrupt?

Good targets are gonna get targeted. We can't just not go after him because a desperate ******** like Wade might throw them a bag. Plus, this stuff is exactly why the media gets annoyed with this staff. The staff tries to go dead silent, but stuff leaks (thank the agents) and then five other vulture programs swoop in to drop their bag. The choice is overpay or let em walk.

Now that the overall pool has dwindled you could say the same advantages will persist. Will this be our continued explanation until LSU, KU, and others have a full roster. Eventually you need to get the job done, no excuses.
This is an unrealistic expectation, IMO. All financials being equal, a player will choose starter minutes over backup minutes. So, again, we either egregiously overpay to compensate for them being a backup or we let them walk.
